If I wanted to drop $70K+ to build a jet, it definitely wouldn't have a strut-braced wing. But get it cheap enough and I might be tempted to buy it because it's cute and has a unique look. But it doesn't look especially fun to fly. 110 cruise? 155 Vne? Meh.

This thing flys around quite nicely with a forty something HP engine, has retractable landing gear, and will scoot along at over 110 mph, and has a stall speed down around 40 mph. That in itself is quite remarkable, But the first thing everyone wants to do is stuff a big heavy 150 to 300 hp motor in it. I bet this would be a super sweet plane with a lighter 85 to 125 hp engine in it. You start stuffing big hp in this thing, you start having to basically redesign the whole plane to carry that hp and extra weight. Then you start defeating the whole purpose for this planes existence.

I'm surprised that homebuilt planes like this don't use motorcycle engines. A 998 CC Honda engine produces 183 HP, and running at 50% throttle that should still be close to 90hp, with LOTS to spare. They're also really reliable engines, liquid cooled, electronic fuel injection, and lightweight. And it also runs on Premium pump gas - no leaded AVgas needed. Mind you, a pair of PBS TJ-100 jet engines tucked into the aft end of those tunnels would be sweet, and provide some redundancy in case one of them flames out.

@@buzzypeterson1147 Carbon Fiber is light though.
@buzzypeterson11472 жыл бұрын
@@MRxMADHATTER actually you’d be surprised. Not as light as you’d think by the time you are done. Plus the Regitity of carbon is a problem. I had a buddy build a wood core composite plane called a kr2. It was very successful in fiberglass. There were many built. The issue is he did his in carbon 100% and it delaminated because the carbon is so stiff. It’s very hard and will delam from the core. That is why cirrus uses very little carbon fiber in their planes. They are actually 90% regular fiberglass.
@MRxMADHATTER2 жыл бұрын
@@buzzypeterson1147 I understand that. I used to build. the F-35 and other planes out of carbon. You can't just use carbon by itself. You have to have a framework to attach it to. Also, it helps to use the right resin when doing the lay ups and then cureing it in an autoclave. That strengthens the carbon quite a bit. Also you can go a little bit thicker without adding much weight. Also layups need to be done in vacum bags to remove the excess resin. Resin is the weak link in carbon fiber. I would not recomend a monocoque design in pure carbon. It can be done but that makes it heavier. To keep it light you need just the right combination of metal formers, stringers, bulkheads, etc. I know it would work if it's engineered right, because I've done it myself.

Somebody wake me when this ACTUALLY ships.

That is really thinking out of the box that puts a different perspective on homebuilt. That performance/HP is incredible. And looking at it, makes so much sense.

This thing is cool. I heard Tom Cruise bought one to use as a chandelier.

Haha! Yeah? Or a Lawn Ornament maybe? Maybe... it will be a prop in one of his Next Mission Impossible movies! Thank You for watching!
@thereissomecoolstuff2 жыл бұрын
@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel At the price point of the kit I'm pretty sure the plane would be a lot cheaper than an art chandelier. Mount it upside down light it up cool...magic.

Please build an A10, I think it would lend better to the finish work on the metal that this prototype needs.

Absolutely beautiful aircraft, my hats off to the Greek that came up with this and glad it has graced our shores. Hope to have one one day

Always nice to see new designs however from some angles maybe ok but others it just reminds me of a box kite made to kind of look like a fighter plane.
@NightSky7772 жыл бұрын
Agree it could use some design refinements

Ah. Canadian involvement. Won't lie, what first canme to mind on seeing the thumbnail was the, uh, famous Diemert Defender...also Canadian. But on a second glance this little micro-F22 looks much, much sounder. The semiretractable main gear (so that a belly landing really isn't) is a fine idea and echoes an earlier, larger type that met with some success...the Douglas DC-3!

Stealth characteristics, even if just in emulation, is an aerodynamic compromise. The aircraft would almost certainly be better if it weren't designed to look stealth.

Where's the fun in that?

Plus all the drag that intake duct causes.
@eatonkuntz7 ай бұрын
I don't know if drag is a concern when the prototype goes 110 with less than half the HP of the production version. Also, I'm sure the duct and "stealth" lifting body help push that stall speed down to 40.

Excellent, is there an electric version yet. Very nice design, I'm an ex Air Force airframe repair specialist and this looks really easy to build. Nicely done gentleman.🖖😎👍🛩️
@brianawilk285 Жыл бұрын
I dont think they'll be making an electric version anytime soon since it would make it too heavy unless you only want to fly it for 20 minutes. Its the one thing thats holding back electric cars and vehicles the weight of the batteries to the storage capacity.

Something that looks so nice should be able to cruise at least 180 mph. Otherwise, while it looks nice, it seems a bit too slow. It'll be interesting to see what the other engine options bring. It's on my radar. :-)

Vne is 155. This plane will do best at low speeds. It's still cool though!

Honestly just waiting for someone to come out with something like this driven by a Battery system with an Electric Motor like what Tesla's done with their cars, but to drive the propeller at a high RPM. I think it'd be interesting, but also quite challenging to see someone pull it off.

Battery mass is still the sticking point.

That was my thought too. Could make the build even easier, with less moving parts and less to maintain?
@Stubby02662 жыл бұрын
Are they going to try and clean up some lines? Rough looking. Will they engineer to get rid of the struts for the wings? Still won't be able to afford to build this one either.
