I use my centris on natural venues, walking miles along rivers, one rod, and reel. I can't afford for the reel to let me down miles away from the car. Other than kicking my centris around the floor , it's used and abused and still it works like new. Great reel worth the money.

It's about time all reel manufactures reduced the line capacity on the spools we dont need 150metres and anglers Shouldn't have to put backing on a new reel make the spools the correct size in the first place.

You mention in an earlier post that the old Centris spools fit the new reels but you lose the speed drag facility so if you fit a new SD spool to an old Centris would you gain the speed drag ?

I haven’t tried it but I would say yes, as the drag is built into the spool and not the spindle it sits on. I would check it out at a shop first before purchasing.

I only wished preston would produce these reels in the 620 and 720 sizes. At the moment I am using an extremity for my distance fishing but they are not a patch on the quality of my centris reels.

Yes, old spools will interchange. However, you will loose the Speed Drag facility if using the older spools.

Interesting move by Preston. Putting out high end gear (and high price) rather than ‘cheaping’ down and trying to compete at the low end. Arguably, PI already have very robust and technical reels, so I wonder who these are for, and will anyone really appreciate the difference?

If and when funds allow. The reels well worth it. I use mine on average twice a week on rivers through the session had hard fighting Barbell and chub on it. Dragged it along the bank covered in mud, don't put it in a reel pouch and still works like new. " treat yourself when you can"😊

@@UKprestoninnovationsSadly you’ve downgraded these reels in my opinion , they were a great reel with a wider range on the drag , since you’ve so called upgraded it there’s now less range of sensitivity on the drag , the new quick lock mechanism on the handle looks clunky and it detracts from the the overall aesthetics and also it’s another thing that could cause issues once it starts to wear , which is the reason I liked the original non folding handle ( it was solid and it worked well , so why change it ? ) Most disappointing of all is that you’ve done away with the carbon on the body which gave this reel something unique and classy looking at the same time saving on weight .

You’ve removed the carbon finish on the inner rotor … added a horrible looking folding handle and messed around with what was a perfect drag system …. Please could you go back to making the original NT , I want to buy 2 brand new original NT 420’s and can’t find any for sale 😢 …. Not everyone wants a quick drag or folding handle and to me you’ve taken away the classy look and cheaped it out by removing the carbon on the rotor body … that was such a nice touch on the NT .

I used Mitchell reels for 40 years , they were great reels and very well ( probably over) engineered, I now have the Centris nt 420 for the last 3 years and it’s miles ahead of any Mitchell reel , it’s so silent and smooth compared to the old reels and the drag is just sublime. It’s like night and day.

It is ok but why that UGLY RED color? You have a nice fishing gear in black and blue an then... red color it looks like a chinese cheap toy
