It’s a polarising hut that, some are not happy because you can still see Te Anu below but I, like you, think it’s great. Thanks for watching, be sure to see the other two in the series 👋

Great to see your videos back. I couldn’t agree more with your comments regarding men’s health/mental health very wise words.
@OutdoorsmanDave Жыл бұрын
@@roycetramping You are so right Roy. Life this year has been stressful and getting into the bush for me, is the cheapest mental therapy available, I hope to inspire people to discover that themselves too.

Dave! You're back!! Thought u had done a runner mate. I've watched U from the beginning enjoying your banter and reflections on life. Good to see U have returned. I'm actually doing the Kepler and Routeburn next week so bit of a coincidence with yr comeback and all. All the best mate and hope we bump into each other one day in the Kaimais

Not a runner just that life’s priorities got in the way this year. Thanks for your loyal viewership. Hope this video helped with your planning, but see my Routeburn videos starting with kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKjTn4GYYqZ8npI for more. Look forward in hearing about your adventure

Dave thanks for being so personal and transparent. I’ve just come back from to the Te Pua-A-Tane loop in the Whirinaki forest. I ended up doing 110km, stayed 4 nights 5.5 days. - Bro I’ve lost 35kg in the last 13 months. I still a big boy but being able to do 4 big trips over the last 5 months have been amazing. - I’ve gig another 20_25kg to lose in the next 12 months, I’ll be around 85-90kg. - keep safe and walking

Such a lovely comment to make, it is my intention that I come across that way (other than my secret spots) so thanks. That was one of my best circuits too, if you’re not seen my five videos on it start here kzbin.info/www/bejne/hILYmKSPa9aqhbs Proud of you man, that’s an amazing achievement, now to keep it off which is why I love the 16 hour fasting as it’s so doable. How did you manage to loose such an epic amount?

Good to see you back out and about. Great message Dave as men we don"t talk enough about mens health so good on ya for sharing. I myself have just spent 2 days in Thames hospital (1st time stay ever, not nice) at 55 with chest pain but thankfully no issues found but still enough to give us a scare. I've started a 16/8 fasting regime as I have a medium sized child to get rid of and certainly do not want another hospital visit anytime soon so I plan to do some hiking as part of getting myself right. Appreciate your time making these videos and your message came at the most appropriate time.

Glad you were deemed ok Les. I use the free app Fastic and set it to 16hours, it’s so sustainable and as you saw from my graph, effective, I’ve been a marathon runner for decades but it’s food discipline not exercise that made the difference, look forward in in working for you too.

Excellent video, Dave. I've spotted you on the Facebook Tramping group sharing good advice, but this is the first KZbin video of yours I've watched. Great stuff - I'm guessing it takes long to edit them as it does to walk the track! Keep an eye out for The Moa Hunters on the trail - we may cross paths one day. :-)
@OutdoorsmanDave Жыл бұрын
Thanks Adam, apparently there are Moa bones in Luxmore cave, I would have looked for had I known prior. It takes a minimum of 30hrs to produce, and that’s not including the capture. Maybe you should send me an invite for the 2024 adventure

Great to see you back mate! Great honest personal journey you’ve taken and told about too! Something is kiwi blokes need to share more of. I’m a day off the Routeburn and loved it! Did it with the wife and we both found it an awesome way to soul search and solve the worlds problems together.

Thank-you, yes its been hard to find time to play this year. It’s made me realise that if I’m going to use what little spare time I have then it’s best it be used to teach & inspire others. There is some value in entertaining (like the algorithm chasers do) but life is too short for frivolous stuff so look out for more NZ history (like the DC3 series) being infused into my stories. 👋

Congrats on the weight loss! I start feeling really uncomfortable at 77 kg. I'm at 74 and still need to lose 6 kg of abdominal fat -- and put 4 kilos of muscle back onto my legs and back, lol. Too much sitting at home and standing at work, not enough walking with a pack. There's a simpler and better measure than BMI: waist to height ratio. If your waist measurement is more than half your height, then you have weight to lose. Unlike BMI, waist to height ratio works for everybody: young, old, male, female, any ethnicity, stocky, skinny, big hips, no hips, amputees, athletes: anybody and everybody. I walked the Kepler soon after it opened--1989, maybe? It was first come first served at the time, if I remember right. Or maybe we just tented outside the huts. (My ex got all the photos.) I can't get my head around needing to book to walk on DoC tracks, so I won't be doing any Great Walks any more, I think. I wasn't super impressed with the Kepler, but I'd just done the Greenstone and Caples loop so I was feeling a bit "just another day in the office", I guess. I still think fondly of the Greenstone-Caples, although all the details are lost in the mists of time now. I'm Te Aroha's husband, by the way, Dave. Thanks for picking up her and the mokopuna and driving them into town the other week!
@OutdoorsmanDave Жыл бұрын
So nice of you to reachout Greg, your wife is a parenting inspiration. You must be short, 74kg is light! The BMI is a measure my AIA Vitality insurance policy uses to reward me to aim for healthy. I basically earn back everything I pay for insurance cover, it’s a clever incentive policy. You can hike the great walks out of season for less but I agree, I prefer the less populated tracks, see my Kaweka series for example. 👋
@gregvanpaassen Жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorsmanDave Oh, insurance. I've heard of that! Average height but really skinny. A big belly looks weird on a skinny bloke, I reckon: that's part of my motivation! 🙂 Yes, Te Aroha is a marvel. I'm so lucky! The Kaweka Forest Park is awesome. I wish I could spend more time there. When I retire... until then, just a week between Christmas and New Year's. Cheers, Dave!
