It's because ponies are not supposed to have those kinds of technology. There are some contradictions that are canon that show modern technology. For the most part though, think the Industrial Revolution Era. Ponyville is about 150 years behind of our own time. Some of the excuses of the technology that is beyond that Era is simplified versions of modern components and they are powered with bulky crystals concentrated with magic and there is no electricity.
