Epic Robinson R44 Raven II Helicopter Start Up & Take-Off

I was in the right place at the right time recently when I captured this footage of an Epic Robinson R44 Raven II Helicopter Start Up & Take-Off! I was very close as you can see by the video.

This is how Robinson describes this High Performance Helicopter:
"Four-seat R44 RAVEN II and CLIPPER II helicopters are high performing, reliable, and easy to maintain. R44s have a two-bladed rotor system, T-bar cyclic, streamlined instrument panels, and a crashworthy fuel system. An aluminum monocoque and powder-coated steel tube structure provides a lightweight, yet robust airframe while the aerodynamic fuselage optimizes airspeed and fuel economy. Hydraulically boosted controls eliminate cyclic and collective feedback forces and provide responsive handling. A low tail-rotor tip speed and large cambered tail reduce flyover noise. Raven II and Clipper II helicopters are powered by Lycoming’s IO-540 fuel injected engine. The IO-540 delivers improved altitude performance, increased payload, and eliminates the need for carburetor heat."
Wiki describes this Helicopter like this:
"The R44 is a single engine helicopter with a semi-rigid two-bladed main rotor, a two-bladed tail rotor and a skid landing gear. It has an enclosed cabin with two rows of side-by-side seating for a pilot and three passengers. Tail rotor direction of rotation on the R44 is reversed compared to the R22 for improved yaw control authority. On the R44 the advancing blade is on the bottom.
Designed during the 1980s by Frank Robinson and his staff of engineers, the R44 first flew on 31 March 1990. The R44 Astro was awarded an FAA Type Certificate in December 1992, with the first deliveries taking place in January 1993. The first R44 Newscopter featuring onboard electronic news gathering equipment was delivered in 1998. In January 2000, Robinson introduced the Raven with hydraulically assisted controls and adjustable pedals. In July 2002, Robinson introduced the Raven II featuring a more powerful, fuel-injected engine and wider blades, allowing a higher gross weight and improved altitude performance.
During November 2015 Robinson announced the Cadet, a Raven I with a cargo area instead of the two back seats, a slightly less powerful engine and a more efficient muffler.
Robinson has carried out ground run testing with an aircraft diesel engine that could replace its Lycoming IO-540 avgas engine. The diesel could provide better altitude performance, a fuel burn reduced from 16 to 12 US gal (61 to 45 L) per hour and better fuel availability.
In 1997, a Robinson R44 was piloted by Jennifer Murray for the first helicopter circumnavigation of the world by a woman, covering a distance of 36,000 miles in 97 days. As of 2014, an R44 holds the piston speed record of 227 km/h."

Kinda miss the sound and smell of the 6 cylinder lycoming! Very cool man. No check for the clutch and the needle split is a bit odd, cool machine though

@@gblyndensrandomreviews Ha ha, that's a relief!! 😂- We have a minimum warm up time from cold (winter temps) of about 10 minutes at 1000 rpm for a fixed wing using the same Lycoming.

@@witblitsfilm r44 generally takes around 3 mins to warm up but the guy did skip some important things on the startup like mag check and sprag clutch check. I personally wouldnt fly with him

@@Tomshuski350 Skipping a mag check... geez... unwise. Not familiar with rotary but mag check on fixed wing is pretty much one of your main insurance policies but guess it's the same live or die rules. Live/dead cut at startup as a general check. Warm up and taxi phase, 70% power live/dead cut pre-takeoff power runup. So far I have only had one blip, and that was a fouled plug on right mag that dropped RPM by 400 instead of the allowable 150. Taxi back, pull plug, wire brush it out, compressed air, all good.
