Happy New Year Steve, great start to the new season & a really good video. When that Pike started to thrash about in your hands i thought that things were about to get bloody ;)
@BlackCountryPiker11 күн бұрын
Thank you, hopefully you had a good one? Yeah the fish properly started to bend my arm around. Once I’d lowered the fish I could let it go and the cradle stopped it going off. I did have a couple teeth marks 😂

Not doing much since before Christmas. Esthwaite in the Lake District closed in Sept. It's meant fishing the canal has lost a bit of it's draw on me at the moment. Very little chance of a special fish and mostly scratching around for tiny jacks. Currently working on my boat to get it ready for getting back out to sea. 👍

@BlackCountryPiker hopefully we'll bump into each other. They've locked the gate for the winter so travel light as it's a bit of a walk

@ that field is a bit of a nightmare I believe if it’s been flooded or just wet for too long. Cars driving off track from the old hut and getting bogged down. Yes it would be lovely 👍

Well done mate, but I was a bag of nerves watching that, I was convinced it was only a matter of time before your phone/tripod ended up in the river but then I thought about it 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Couple nice ones there well done tough on lures managed one this morning in some open water as a lot of the canal was frozen
@BlackCountryPiker13 күн бұрын
Cheers Lee, canals are a nightmare aren’t they at this time of year. I’ll always try to head for big basins or wooded areas as they tend to have more chance of being clear. And bridges 😂

Nice one Steve, I've had some decent pike from there in the past, I also often fish overnight at the lakes just the other side of the river from where you were 👍👍
@BlackCountryPiker13 күн бұрын
Thank you very much 👍 I’ve never fished the lakes, I hear they are a carp Mecca. I know my dad caught like there before and the owner said they got in from previous flooding
@makethedayuk12 күн бұрын
@@BlackCountryPiker Yes mate, My pb carp is from there, 22lb 2oz. One of the guys who runs it was telling me there's quite a few pike in there, reckons a 21lb pike came out not too long ago..... Although he doesn't let just anyone fish for them.
@BlackCountryPiker11 күн бұрын
Ahh right, I’m guessing dead baits only? So there’s no chance of hooking his carp. I’ve wanted to go there to fish the weir to be fair.
@makethedayuk4 күн бұрын
@ Yes mate, dead baits with single hooks only. but as I said it's not common knowledge. I should be going in the next couple of weeks, I'll let you know how I get on 👍

great result mate. You think using circle hooks is more effective than trebles? Cheers.
@BlackCountryPiker13 күн бұрын
Thank you, in fairness I think some sessions I have lost fish due to using circle hooks which is frustrating. But better for the pike.
