It's actually crazy how damaging the situation really is with the cyclops. We know that he has been with this men throughout the war, 10 years of constantly with these people forging bonds, and during this time he has never experienced loss, never lost a man, never lost family, then he experiences a Very Traumatic Situation with the prophecy. Then while he is still dealing with that he loses seven people, forced to watch them die right in front of him another Extremely Traumatic Event. I couldn't even name 7 people I have been with constantly for a decade, nevermind imagine how I would deal with that being my first experience with loss. It is honestly impressive he can think at all during or after that, him lacking some forsight at that point is actually already doing better than expected.

I'll comment this here and not in the main video because it came to my mind just now. If I remember correctly, the "Lotus Eaters" were described as being wrapped in nature, moss, flowers, because they were so lazy that the plants had the time to grow on them, hence why they look the way they do. Plus, the flower sprouting from their head is the same as the flower of the Lotus, signifying that their mind isn't exactly their own.

Odysseus never wanted to be in Troy to begin with, though the Trojan War is technically his fault. He suggested the arrangement that lead to every city-state being involved in returning Helen, in exchange for a good word with Penelope's father, leading to their marriage. Likely already mentioned, but fun fact to the comment pointing out the 'threading' machine in 6:00:00 ish, that is a nod to the OG story - penelope used the excuse that she could not mary anyone until she had finished weaving Odysseus funeral drapery, that'd be burned in his funeral instead of his body. The suitors for the most of those 20 years of waiting respected that tradition, and so to take that long she basically spent all day for 20 years weaving a complex piece, then un-weaving it every night to make sure she was never done. It was, amidst other strategies, the why the suitors waited so long. Hence being shown here as he mentions its been 12 long years, its what she is currently doing in this mean time waiting for him, buying him time to return.
@workchannel805326 күн бұрын
Elpenor's part in the Odyssey is so funny because he gets drunk off his butt, climbs up onto the roof of Circe's palace to get some fresh air, then misses the ladder on the way down and breaks his neck. Then they completely forget about him until is spirit comes crying to Odysseus in the underworld who's like "Oh shoot I'm sorry, we were in such a hurry we forgot to give you proper burial rites" and they have to rush back to Circe's island to bury him. And knowing that these stories come from an oral tradition, I wouldn't be surpised if it was supposed to be comedic. I can imagine if you were performing a poem like this out loud there would be a sort of rhythm to it, where you want the audience laughing at some parts and then crying at other parts. It's very fun to imagine what it must have been like as a living tradition.

5:20:43 Due to the fact that the gods (mostly Zeus) have so many kids, a lot of people in Greek mythology are distantly related in some way. For example: Odysseus and Agamemnon are kind of related. Agamemnon is the brother of Menelaus, Menelaus is the husband of Helen and Helen is a cousin to Penelope who is Odysseus’ wife. So in modern times they would probably only see each other at a funeral or wedding. Also Odysseus is a descendant of Hermes and is therefore also a descendant of Zeus (he would be Zeus’ great-great-grandson) and Agamemnon is (to my knowledge) also a great-great-grandson of Zeus. (To my knowledge Agamemnon’s family tree is this; Father: Atreus Grandfather: Pelops Great-Grandfather: Tantalus Great-Great-Grandfather: Zeus)

Something I just noticed. In "Full Speed Ahead" when Odysseus is talking about the fires on the island, we can actually hear the same chorus we hear in "No Longer You" faintly

5:20:52 In Oedipus’ defense, he did not know that she was his mother when he married her. Oedipus was raised in Corinth after being given to a shepherd as a baby. Oedipus later gets married to a woman named Jocasta, the widow of the previous king of Thebes, Laius, without knowing they were related. (Jocasta thought her son was dead.) Oedipus eventually discovered the truth after a messenger from Corinth and the shepherd who rescued him told him the truth. Oedipus realizes he had killed his father and slept with his mother. Jocasta ends up hanging herself after realizing the truth and Oedipus blinded himself with pins from her dress. After Oedipus is no longer king, Oedipus's brother-sons kill each other. The End.

Subbed and commenting for engagement/to appease the algorithm gods. I don't have wifi at the where I live so this would be too much mobile data usage. But when I have wifi access I look forward to watching! Congrats on the new channel!

•I kept getting lost, UGH, made it. The irony when I tell you I’ve been listening to Thunder Saga on repeat, and both days* have been full of both rain, and thunder today! (Odd sun shower)… Guess I’ll just watch this again 7.5 hours Perfect! Glad you’re both collaborating; Cannot wait to see your updated reactions to the “Epic Saga”. But IM READY.

AND Circe is not a goddess, but she is more than a human. She is the daughter of a god and a nymph. And in Greek mythology EVERYONE hooks up with everyone, regardless of relationship or sex. Uranus hooks up with Gaea, his mother, for example. Ximena (I pronounce it like Hi (like hahaha/laughter) mena)

Literally using this as a screensaver at work right now while I am doing paperwork. On mute, unfortunately, but you guys are so expressive that between the video and your faces I can usually tell what you're talking about!

I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve sat through this! Love your reactions and this musical! Love hearing y’all talk about the same things that were going on in my head when I first listened to the first act!

I've been playing this game of "How far have I made it in the video?" where I'll pause what I'm doing to see which song/saga they're at and realizing I've spent a long time on something. It's kind of fun actually. Also, I'm on my 3rd watch already...
