Rev it after take off.... avoids nose landing! It will be hard to master it on small flights but it will pay off to protect the small travel front shocks!

I realize it has been a year, but do you remember what weight oil you used in shocks? If shocks have short travel, maybe 40 weight? Great video!
@TomleyRC5 жыл бұрын
oh...good question. I think I just use Tamiya 'medium'.... not sure what weight that is?

Looks good! I'm guessing these shocks would fit my FY03 ok too. I have a dilemma now, fit a brushless system to my FY03 or switch it for a 12428 now that there are metal gears available. Everything you can do with the FY you can also do with the WL but with 540 motors instead of 390. I guess the question is whether or not a brushless 390 would be all the power you would ever need. I'm guessing the answer is yes but I still feel somewhat drawn to the WL. The WL has bigger gears too so once you factor in the metal upgrade I would say the WL leap frogs the FY back into the lead when it comes to drivetrain strength. Decisions decisions lol
@TomleyRC6 жыл бұрын
Tough choice! I have metal gears on their way for this. Then will try a mild brushless.

ok, so, i installed double shocks UDR-style on my FY-08 (same exact structure, apart from the sway bar and body) but the rear travel is getting extremely limited by the battery bay, the rear axle is hitting it. i have no other solution in mind right now, so i guess i will have to remove the bed and put the battery elsewhere. dont know where however.

The stock shocks are pointless. I just got a set of the upgraded shocks with the springs inside, are you supposed to add oil to them? Also I installed a 3650 3300kv motor with 60amp ESC and mine if I stop in grass and try to take off or try to climb a steep grade at a slow speed it wont do it, it just shutters like its cogging. Any suggestions?
@TomleyRC5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the motor is cogging?....you may need to set up the ESC. As for the shock, not sure on internal spring ones.

Awesome video man great job! I would not call that massive air not bad though on concrete 😂 i was jumping mine x3-x4 that at least on a 4000mah 2s lipo not the stock battery of course 😊 On a soft grassy muddy landing spot and it bent the dog bones 😂 But a few taps with a hammer and there fixed ill pop my dog bones off so i dont break them so it will be 2wd and put a fast motor in it and see if i can get that air again but on video this time 😉
@TomleyRC6 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Yeah, not really 'massive'. If I'd put Wltoys 'Average Air' in the title I'm not sure it would be as catchy lol. I guess it's easy to bend the dog bones on these, they are quite small. Thanks for the sub ;)

I recommend these, cheaper, same chassis, better build quality...slipper clutch etc. Not quite a fast, but I prefer them. www.gearbest.com/rc-cars/pp_663336.html?wid=1433363&lkid=15306670

The suspension difference is night and day, it actually lands rather than jumping back into the air. A must have mod in my mind. Did you manage to fix the problem with the suspension arm getting stuck?

Sounds about right ive Subd by the way, your videos are awesome. I'm currently looking around for my first hobby grade car. I'm looking for something that can do a bit of everything, can do jumps in the back garden but can also do a bit of off road in a forest. Lookin at £60 (ish) is this something you'd recommend or is there something better?

"massive jumps" *get's 2 foot off the ground* The only one I wanted to see you jump at full speed, you edited out of the video. lol
@TomleyRC5 жыл бұрын
Massive for a cheap RC...The big one at full speed would have been a disappointment. Although it does 70km/h+ now...so that would be more interesting lol
@jwallace72305 жыл бұрын
@@TomleyRC Yeah, I just got around to ordering the motor/receiver & suspension upgrades for mine. I also took the "counter-weights" out of it and it goes about 2km/h faster (tested with another 12428) people say it's to balance the car, but if you center the car, it will fall to the side that has the weights. Those were added to make it do wheelies on the hard road and nothing more and just slows it down. seeing as how I have 3 HPI and 2 Losi cars with variations between nitro and electric and none have counter weights in them lol. I do like the channel and your videos, keep up the good work bud. I already subbed!

@@jwallace7230 This truck was not made for speed mainly, it is an offroader and a crawler also. The weights help a lot when crawling and when going on uneven and muddy surfaces as the additional weight enhances the traction a lot.

@@radiocontrolled9181 im aware of how traction works and its technically a "toy" but made to be customized in a "hobby" grade way, and yes they can get fast!

wltoys SUCKS. Every single one of their products has crappy suspension, 3 in 1 ESC and crappy motor in them. Seriously suggest you keep away from these guys. Other than that nice video.
@TomleyRC6 жыл бұрын
N-E-RC Yes, they are cheap....very cheap. However, that doesn’t mean they are not fun, myself and my lad have enjoyed bashing this truck, and it now has a Brushless system and metal axles. Although I never had any issues with it stock, apart from the bouncy suspension which was changed quite soon. For the money they are great, but as I mention in other videos, not for the serious RC’er 👍
