Where I'm from here in Kenya, we really don't have a variety of yarn, we mostly use acrylic yarn because that's what's available.... But quite frankly my favorite yarn is cotton yarn... It's so smooth and it makes very beautiful garments
@lemonbalmmelАй бұрын
So far I've only ever knitted with Acrylic yarn, but I desperately want to knit a tee in a cotton-bamboo blend. The colours of the 3 skeins are gorgeous for our South African spring. I think a cotton-bamboo blend will suit our hot summers, but merino blends will make wonderful jerseys to keep warm in the winter (and 2nd winter in spring we're having now that is actually colder than the actual winter!)! Honestly, I don't think 400 balls is too bad. I'm just envious of your stash!! Especially all the natural fibres and hand dyed hanks! I'm on a disability grant in South Africa, and keep myself busy knitting blankets for charity - that's why I've only used acrylic thus far. I have a real desire to knit garments for the family after watching all the knitting and crochet youtubers! My stash starts with blankets I design for full single bed sized blankets for the church, then those scraps go into strip blankets (more knee rug size), but I'm now teaching myself your daisy hex crochet for the substantial left overs of my designed blankets, and then the little bits of scraps are to make catnip mice for SPCA.
@maaggie1Ай бұрын
You have mostly hanks that need to be wound up into cakes for use. Skeins are usually already ready to use, whether center pull or from the outside. Balls are another form of cakes/skeins, ready to use when you buy them.

I’ve been crocheting for a while but have only gone as far as Acrylic, cotton, and Bamboo yarns. However in terms of softness bamboo is my favorite but right now my favorite would be cotton! I’ve been making more clothes and dishcloths and its texture is so satisfying to me!

My favourite yarn is west Yorkshire spinners - you just cant go wrong with it.

It was so fun to see your stash! Thanks for sharing with us. My favourite is acrylic yarn, specifically the cheap WI yarn from Hobbycraft, because that’s the only yarn I have used to crochet so far! 😂 I started crocheting in May - my first project was following your giant granny square blanket tutorial. I’m hoping to branch out and try some different yarns soon!
@meemamakesАй бұрын
Honestly the WI soft and smooth I think it's called is a dreamy acrylic yarn to work with. It's unlike any other acrylic I've ever used! And it seems to forever be on on 3 for 2

My favorite yarn is hands down Bernat Blanket it was the first yarn I used to learn how to crochet with a double crochet. But also Caron is my second choice! It just works up very well and doesn’t split.

My favourite yarn is merino sock yarn My favourite yarn in your stash is the beehive haystack or the explore. They are so beautiful. I am at the moment knitting with sock yarn a variegated brown winter scarf with a matching beret and I love how they are turning out. If I have enough I’ll make mitts too. 😊
@elizabethpomerantz2245Ай бұрын
My current favorite is the soft wool sport weight hand dyed yarn (bought special for the Yorkshire crochet along!!). But I haven’t been knitting or crocheting long so I love trying new ones, and am just moving into working with thinner fibers

I'm really jealous of all your hand dyed yarn 😍 i only have like 3 skeins and am a little afraid to use them up because they're precious. My absolute favourite is a handspun and hand dyed from a Swedish indie dyer called vickevira. Its called after the rain and have darker gradient rainbow colours 😍

I'm still new to all of the different fibers. I had used acrylic, and acrylic blends when I was first starting out for crocheting and knitting, but I'd have to say wool yarn since I used it for a sweater or any/all yarn that's soft and pleasant to work with😊. Thank you for sharing your amazing stash. Its amazing to seeing what others enjoy using, what they have, and perfer using for projects.

I don't have a favourite yarn and, as a relative beginner, tend to use acrylic for most projects because I am scared of messing up with the nicer stuff. I have a few skeins of hand-dyed yarn that I like to look at but have yet to work up the courage to use! 😆

I might have to do what you have done and buy a yarn cabinet also, as I currently use a minute maid bucket and a straw basket from Italy. And they are full of yarn, because I can't resist buying yarn and I like buying different weights to experiment. My favorite yarns are jewel-tone yarns and those that are self-stripping and variegated yarns. I do admire your yarn collection.

I really enjoyed watching your video, I love a long KZbin video so this was dreams come true having a 2 hour long video to watch! My favourite hand dyed yarn has to be Blue Fern yarns, I was able to sample knit for her earlier in the year and I fell in love with her bases and now have about 6 single skeins to use up! I also really adore Beehive Yarns, the colourway Beth comes up with are just unreal.

I do love a good yarn stash video!! I would definitely enjoy an annual version! I am very jealous of your stash. I have only seriously got into crochet this year despite having learned nearly 30 years ago! I only have an extremely small stash myself and I have only used acrylics so it is very difficult to say what yarn is my favourite. I got to a knit and stitch group at my local church and the lady who runs the group was using a bamboo cotton and I would definitely say it my favourite yarn that I have touched so far! They knit and crochet garments for the local hospital for premature babies and babies born sleeping. They are also linked to a lady who is a midwife who goes out to Africa a lot and uses our donated garments to help women to engage in pre and post natal care. I’m sure any such organisation near you would be extremely grateful. My group is just the other side of the Pennines from you if you can’t find one. Donating it is a wonderfully kind thing of you to do. Kerry 💜

Most yarns are my favorite 😂 but truly, a good worsted for a crochet project (typically not a wearable) is good by me but for any sort of garment or knit project I definitely lean toward a sock or sport weight. As far as print or color I’m all over the place 😅

Thank you for sharing your stash its so beautiful. I love that you have a mix of hand dyed, second hand and commercially. So often on KZbin people only show hand dyed and it can feel a little unobtainable. I've decided to rename my stash a my Yarn Hoard! My dream would be to bury myself in it like Smaug 😂😂 Yarn shows with poor access can be so scary in a wheelchair. I love Unravel as my local fibre festival but its such a tight space that i frequently get stuck in stalls until people have finished chatting. The upside is that half the vendors recognise me and we get to chat while I weight for food traffic to clear! I'm the complete opposite in the colours I can wear as im spoonie pale with blond hair so bright colours especially blue make my skin look less grey. Hues of the harbour is my favourite from your give away selection I am still thinking of it at the end of the episode. Thank again for the wonderful company while I sorted the hoard. 😊
@meemamakesАй бұрын
Hi Ellie, thanks so much for your comment and congrats on winning the giveaway. I put details about how to claim your prize in a community post on the channel. Your comment about being like Smaug made me chuckle! So lovely to hear from a fellow spoonie but so angry to hear about yet another unaccessible yarn show. I am seriously considering sending Yarndale a strongly worded email. I feel excluded enough in most places but yarn is my sanctuary! Anyways, on a lighter note I hope that you managed to sort out your own yarn hoard. With you loving brighter colours than me I would love to see it because I'm sure its absolutely beautiful! Em x
@ellie38gwenАй бұрын
@@meemamakes Wow I'm so excited to have won I really didn't expect to. I have followed the community tab instructions. I completely agree about the yarnie community being a place of sanctuary. Yarn and its crafts are so inclusive, it is so sad when it becomes exclusive by lack of planning. I have heard that East Anglia Yarn Festival is meant to be very accessible. I am hoping to go in 2025😃. My hoard finally finished being sorted this morning and I have just about squeezed most of it back into its storage (ish!). I will definitely tag you in the creations that your beautiful yarn turns into. Many Many Thanks once again Ellie x
