Simone was three months pregnant during this concert ..... not quite sure how much that would affect her vocals, but her headbanging sure was restrained. A nice follow up would be "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" by Pergolesi from this same concert ..... Floor and Simone going full blast classical in this early 19th century hymn with only the orchestra.

While I love this piece, IMO the better of the two Floor performed with them at that concert was Sabat Mater Dolorosa, in which Floor sings the alto part while Simone sings the soprano. Absolute class and a rock audience completely silenced to hear every note and nuance. You also get a hint of Floor's training and class in that at the end she properly acknowledges the conductor, orchestra and choir, as well as the band. You can also see it in this, as it is Floor who is lofting her voice (some of the time - it is one of the choices she makes to add colour to her voice) while Simone uses the wider voice throughout. But above all, huge shoutout to the audio techs who must have put in well over a normal day of work setting up, checking and balancing all the channels and grouping them sensibly so they could be mixed live. to cope with everything from hard and heavy death metal to the pure sound you would expect of Sabat Mater. With every choral singer and instrument (down to each drum and cymbal) on a different channel, and the lead vocalists on a pair each for spacial movement, that must have been a humungous operation! Oh, and Simone was a bit restrained in her normal headbanging, as she was 3 months pregnant.

Yes thoroughly impressed with the audio techs so many moving parts these people are true multitaskers.
@phillee28143 жыл бұрын
@@jamestnov41945 The sheer number of channels means they must have had to balance them as multi-layered groups for realtime control - say "orchestra", "choir", "percussion", "band", "lead vocals" with subgoups withing (for example) orchestra for "strings", brass", "woodwind", etc. Then each instrument type in that section - "1st violins", "2nd violns", "violas", "cellos", "basses", then each instrument individually. I'm amazed that they managed to do all the soundchecks in one day - it must have been well north of 150 channels. And you have to set it all up before you can even start on sound checks.

If you've seen any other Floor Jansen duet/colab videos, you usually find yourself saying, "Wow, their voices match perfectly!" Or "so well" or "It's amazing how good their voices sound together. Cut to the chase.... It's Floor. You already know how versatile this woman is and that being said I know there is nothing she can't do to make a song sound great. She literally adjusts her voice to match or resemble the other voice, in other words, "compliments" the other voice as to try and make one fluent enjoyable sound instead of two tones that don't mix through an entire song. So next time you react to a duet or a collaboration that includes Floor Jansen, pay close attention to how their voices sound in the beginning and you should place a hefty wager on the fact that the 2 time around is going to sound way better. Just as you heard here but didn't really pick up on it. Simone has thinner vocal chords giving her a much higher, thinner tone much like when you turn up the "treble" knob on a guitar. Floor adjusts her sound to be a bit higher in tone, drops some bottom to her sound and shortens the timing in her acoustics as to avoid picking up that natural resonating low that is produced by the shape of her skull. Why else do you think the 3rd chorus is an absolute homerun? Their voices almost sound like one. Perfection!!. ❤ She knows all this... And it impresses me even more. 🥰 This woman has more talent than even she wants to admit. Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤🤘🤘

My aunty was an operatic singer, when growing up my dad played golf with a bunch of people from lots of different nationality's and on Saturday's nights, they would sit around and sing songs(also using whatever could be find to make sound). She seemed to have a ball from trying songs from other nations(Irish, Welsh, English, Italian, Greek) and experimenting with the sounds and pronunciations of words. She fell in love with ABBA, Meatloaf, and Queen after hearing me play some of their songs. She spent countless hours, trying to help me learn to sing better(RIP Aunty I'm sure you would have loved this)

The man who shouts "Floor Jansen" at the end with a growling voice is Mark Jansen (no family relation). Both he and Floor were together in a band called After Forever in the 90s/early 2000s until Mark was dismissed from the band due to creative differences. He went on to found Epica (then called Sahara Dust) with his girlfriend at the time - Simone. Simone and Floor are close friends and have been for years - this is why they have such good chemistry on stage. Mark and Simone are no longer a couple, but they still work very well together. Simone is married with Oliver Polotai, the keyboards player of another metal band : Kamelot (in fact she was pregnant during this show which is why she didn't headbang as violently as Floor xD ) . Very early Epica (then named Sahara Dust) was in fact Kamelot's support band during their Epica tour (from their namesake album), and it is from Kamelot's Epica album title that the name of band comes from. Kamelot was the support band during Nightwish's 2012 Imaginaerum US tour, during which then-Nightwish-vocalist Anette Olzon fell ill minutes before their Denver show. Kamelot's session vocalists Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz covered for Anette and the show went on while she was hospitalized. Nightwish's decision to go forward with the show upset Anette and she publicly criticized the band on her blog. This was the last straw in Anette's and Nightwish's already troubled relationship and days later, the band fired her, with Floor acting as her replacement for the remainder of the tour. We know the rest of the story. Elize Ryd was also considered by Nightwish as a vocalist - way back in 2005 when they fired their first vocalist, Tarja Turunen. They thought Elize was too young and inexperienced at the time and went with Anette instead. Elize went on to found her own band, Amaranthe. Unrelated to this, on their first album with Anette, Nightwish released a song titled Amaranth. Is your head spinning yet? XD

A little nugget of knowledge: The Connection of Floor Jansen & Epica. After Forever was originally assembled in 1995, under the name Apocalypse. Floor Jansen was sixteen when she joined Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997. They were originally a death metal cover band with harsh male vocals. With the joining of vocalist Floor Jansen in 1997, their style and sound shifted towards symphonic gothic metal. In 2002 Mark Jansen, one of the main composers and founder of the band, was fired from After Forever. He then began looking for musicians who would work towards a more classical/symphonic type of music project; this was initially named Sahara Dust. In late 2002, the band courted Helena Michaelsen (from Trail of Tears) as its frontwoman, but shortly after she was replaced by the then unknown Simone Simons, who was Jansen's girlfriend at the time. The name was later changed to Epica, inspired by Kamelot's album of the same name.

Crashing Down or Fate Sealed in Red are fantastic :) Catherine has a lovely voice, you will like it with a clean vocals, grunt and lady, so 3 voices in one band!

Have a look at Floor when she windmills. She puts her hands on her hips to stabilize her core to support her neck to prevent too much strain. It will stop you getting a sore neck

Have you heard any of Nightwish's stuff with their first singer Tarja Turunnen? She is an actual opera singer. She is pretty amazing as well. I can't say which is better. But there is definitely a difference between them. What's good is that you can see live versions of some of the same songs by both singers. Ghost love score comes to mind. Anyway, even if you don't do it as a reaction video, I recommend checking it out at some point.

Floor is a BEAST!!! I Love all she does with her vocals! I'd love for you to react to Meatloaf one of the original ROCK OPERA singers " Paradise by the dashboard lights" or "I'd do anything for love" His shows were complete full on musical theater operas.

Simone wrote the lyrics of this song, it's quite a dark theme. It's about a suicide bomber who thinks he's in heaven but actually ended up in hell, though he likes it there.

Great windmill Maggie, those two ladies make a great combo. I love the way the chorus added so much adrenaline to the mix besides the tightness of the whole band. I was especially impressed with the drummer; his fills were very solid. Throwing the metal horns back at you keyboard style \m/\m/\m/\m/\m/
