Epica is amazing like Nightwish. Just FYI... Epica will be releasing a new album this year in February , they already dropped a new video a few days ago promoting the new album....it is awesome. But I would suggest either Chasing The Dragon (live from Retrospect) or Design Your Universe ( live from retrospect). Both songs are amazing and worth checking out.

Epica, at last 🤘🏻 If you like this quite basic Epica song, they will blow your mind when you continue to explore their repertoire. Epica’s music is much heavier and more complex than Nightwish, and somewhat harder to digest. Those who can appreciate beauty and the beast vocals (including growls) and death-black-thrash-prog-symphonic metal fusion, will find them THE best symphonic metal band out there.

Your finding all the greats. Simone Simons is just amazing. At some stage go down the Ayreon rabbit hole (yes Dutch again 🤣🤣) He does some epic projects that quite often feature Floor and Simone. Usually Floor right at the end when you don't expect it. Epica took their name from the 2003 Kamelot album. Simone is married to the keyboard player in Kamelot, Oliver Palotai. Metal is Family. I'm repeating myself but, hey, I'm old! LOL! I learned recently that Simone likes the "e" at the end of her name pronounced - like in Aphrodite! Fine by me! The current drummer with Epica is Arien van Weesenbeek who began drumming - bashing furniture with forks and spoons - when he was 3 years old! Then he found his dad's drumkit! .... Floor is a long time friend of Simone and she trained her back in the day. Mark Jansen (no relation) was with Floor in her band After Forever. The metal space is very intertwined, Simone is married to the keyboard player of Kamelot and Kamelot have toured with Nightwish. They all come together in Ayreon Project for instance. The Nightwish and Epica fanbases are basically the same. I speak for myself, been a huge fan of both and have seen them both.

Just like Nightwish, Epice, is an excellent live band so try to go for live as much as possible. There are lot of connections to Floor in this band. The guitarist is Mark Jansen, no relation, and he was is Floor's first band After Forever. Simone Simonis was trained by Floor at one time and they became good friends. Hey Jake, great reaction Simone Simons (Epica) and Floor Jansen (Nightwish, former Revamp & After Forever) are good friends - in fact, Floor has been Simone's voice coatch. Both singers are from the Netherlands. Epica is a Dutch band, Nightwish is a (except for Floor and Troy) a Finnish band. Mark Jansen (guitar & male lead vocal in Epica) and Floor Jansen started After Forever together - they are not family related. Mark wanted a more operatic, but also more heavy sound and left After Forever and started Epica with Simone Simons (back then his girlfriend) while Floor continued with After Forever. As mentioned earlier, the band members are good friends. Floor and Simone are also working together in the Ayreon project (another mostly Dutch musical project lead by Arjen Lucassen) - in the latest Ayreon album, Transitus, Simone Simons is "The Angel of Death" Floor, Marco (bassist and male lead vocal) from Nightwish and Simone Simons have participated to Ayreon release and/or concert.

One small correction: Mark founded After Forever as a death metal band in 1995 and is also the growler. But he becomes a Nightwish fan and decides to do Symphonic in 1997 and hires the 16-year-old Floor for it. She had only recently decided to become a singer and also got into metal because of Nightwish. The first album comes out in 2000. And of course Simone is also a Nightwish fan. Floor and Tarja are friends too. Floor also worked as a singing teacher during and after her studies, but I don't know whether she taught Simone. Her singing lessons started even before she meeting with Floor. In contrast to Floor, she had music lessons as a child.
