Thank you epic Gardening! So glad I found your channel even though this video is 5 years old it’s the best video for how to grow micro greens. I’ve been struggling for a while to grow them I manage to get them up but then they would be thin a floppy and end up collapsing. I have followed your tutorial and I 6 days later I have greens! Yay! Using a little herb shaker was a game changer for me and also covering the silver foil and putting them in a dark place was too, I was leaving them to the side in my kitchen ( near a window). I have now got the confidence to do another batch.

Thanks! I used to grow sprouts back in the 70s. I love arugula, I’ve got some started in a tray for baby greens and got some clumped together, so I thinned them and ate the tiny little sprouts. Wow! They are amazing. I really wanted to grow sprouts but I guess micro greens seems to be the way to go. You don’t have any drainage? Do you water besides the spraying? Or is the soil wet when you start? Did the depth of the container make a difference? I’m inspired. Thanks so much. I’ll check out the supplier you mentioned. Can’t wait to watch the rest of your videos!

I'm seeing varying information about covering the seeds with a clear lid or in your case a non transparent lid, i'm on my first grow and so far 1.5 days in..all my other seeds are sprouting except for this one, in which im using a clear plastic lid, although the seeds do look to be in a gel stage..so i think the very start of the rooting process is about to begin..i'll post an update in a few days on my clear top method's results.

Yeah, about that.... I didn't start yet. Where I grow for the wheat grass I don't think will work well for micro green as it is a closed cabinet with fluorescent light and constant fan. With the fan the temp is still near 81 degrees or so. I want to grow the micros on my desk, but we have two cats who love greens (esp wheat grass!). Still thinking on this one.

@kristoferplunkett2430
@kristoferplunkett2430 4 жыл бұрын
Kevin in his microgreens masterclass video said that the soil in the shallower trays is typically spent and unrecoverable. For this deeper one, especially when taking an earlier cut, I suspect there may be some fertile soil left near the bottom of the container. Also, the soil is not wasted if you compost the roots. =)

I do have some questions, what do you do with the soil after the harvest, and is it possible to grow the microgreens on kitchenpaper or cottonballs? or is that too much lack of nutrients to grow successfully. I would like to try this but hauling up bags of soil to my apartment and bags of spent soil to my the thrash seems like a bit daunting to me. ;-)

I would normally compost the soil after use, but right now I'm just disposing of it until I move to a larger space. You can grow on cottonballs but you'll want to harvest early (6-7 days) because the plant will run out of seed nutrition somewhere around that date!
