A while back, I posted a shorter compilation similar to this one called Eat It Or Yeet It: Shayne Topp vs. Malic Acid. My goal with that video was to include all the times Shayne specifically had malic acid, but a lot of the comments on that video rightfully pointed out that there were some other "missing" moments where Shayne's grave mouth came into play on Eat It Or Yeet It and other Smosh Pit shows. Other misconceptions include different areas of the tongue containing taste buds for different flavors, like a sweet section and a sour section. Every taste bud can taste all 5 flavors of sweet sour salty bitter and umami.

Okay, the malic acid thing just screams ageusia to me. Like, it's one thing to be used to something being extremely sour and handling it well, but a whole other to not even notice that something is sour until it curdles your stomach contents. Shayne might literally be physiologically or neurologically incapable of tasting sour properly and might have been since childhood.

I kinda envy him, i have it completelly oppositestuff tastes and smells expired a day or 2 before everyone else. And like 60-70% of conventional food is off limits for me because my body immediatelly tries to vomit it out even before i swallow. I can place a toothpick dipped in raw beet juice on my tongue and have such a reaction that i feel like my throat is twisted. But at least i can apreciate the stufd that i can eat

That's interesting. I am autistic and my sense of taste and texture is amplified. I can tell the difference in milk between different brands, by taste. I dislike many popular foods, but enjoy bland things. Like a slice of bread with nothing on it. I find spicy and bitter things incredibly hard to eat and can't stand most fluid textures. So drinking enough every day is a challenge. I'm very interested in conditions that have to do with taste and texture, cuz I've been confusing my entire family with my taste for years.

Yeah I just remembered I had a friend with similar grave mouth, except his was because of getting 2nd-degree chemical burns on his tongue after eating a quarter-kilo (half pound) of malic acid-coated hard candies _all in one go._ He only realised his taste buds were shot when - 10 years later - we finally convinced him to try hot soup (this man had been eating every meal cold out of the refridgerator for AN ENTIRE DECADE) and lo and behold apparently the Food Which Should Be Hot actually tastes nicer when hot

After a certain amount of consuming sour things, it seems like you get used to it, like with spice. Various candies and "sour" drinks just aren't sour for me anymore. I eat lemons like oranges occasionally cause they are kinda the rare sour thing and they taste good. (Sparingly, as too much lemon juice can damage your teeth)

Lemons are bad for your teeth because it's acidic. Anything with a pH below 7 will be bad for your teeth. Even just carbonated water can give acid burns on your teeth.

I have grave mouth sometimes, too. my second cousin walked up to me once and gave me a ghost pepper season piece of popcorn (I thought it was normal popcorn, it was supposed to be a prank). it took me 5 minutes after walking around to process that my mouth was on fire.

With the lemon juice his face did get a little red, so his body does get affected by it but he just doesnt know why, the same with the big amount of malic acid that was on the burger.

I get it when he barely reacts to sour stuff because things arent as sour to me as they are others because of something with my tongue that I can taste no issue (in fact I can usually pick tastes out super easy) but the receptors that pick up sourness are lacking or almost non-existent... I used to just straight drink Lemon Juice lol
