It is with a heavy heart that we say this is the last part of the Elissa Steamer Epicly Later'd series. We've learned a lot about Elissa over the past four weeks, like the fact that she has a sick kickflip and is a pretty easy going gal. In this part, Elissa explains what "life after skate" is like and how surfing may actually be the key to her future.

Just because she doesn't have a sponsor doesn't mean the world didn't see her and believe me.... We see you Elissa and always have and I believe the world loves you for what you have done because you set one hell of a bar.

She was a strong skater, but not at the highest level, she also didn't work too hard compared to some of her counter parts. Her sign-ability came from the fact she was a female and could attract female skaters, but the market wasn't big enough to put money into that.

Funny how all these friends of her who say she should have a spencer and besides Jamie, don't put her on one of the many companies they at least partly own/manage or high enough to easily put her on one of the companies. Hope she made some good money on her tony hawk pro skater character to be able to live well after her career in skating. Thanks vice for all these epicly later'd. Its a weird feeling to see all these pro skaters who I grew up idolizing in the late 90s early 2000s grow older. Its a great series of the life behind the videos and the inner working of the skate industry that never thought about to even think about while I was spending 8hrs a day on my board as a teen.

They did alright for the royalties of thps. At least like the first 3/4 games before they switched to a one off payment system. Andrew Reynolds said this. "So for the first game, everybody got paid. Elissa Steamer, myself [Reynolds], whoever else was in it, we were laughing-we got like one check for royalties that was like [US]$190,000 or something. We were like what! This is amazing! ... I really love that Elissa Steamer got $190,000 out of it too [laughs] that’s my favorite part."

wow growing up I remember her on thps4 and thinking man she can do shit most guys in my day couldn't or even try. Man seeing all the old skaters now a days makes me feel like those were the days. I am glad I still have my old skate boards, broke or not every time I pick one up it reminds me of what I used to do and what generation inspired me to do so. Seriously puts a warm spot in my chest. Miss it dearly.

hell yeah.. I regret stopping in very late 1990's & was still involved until 2003'ish. but in 2013 i started skating again as a dad & my kid didn't stick with it but i been skating again almost 4-5 days a week since. ***The older locals around 19-25 don't like me & my homie because they refuse to skate outside the skatepark similar to how almost completely refuse to skate at the skatepark. but my point was im having fun still skating at 48 years old.. stairs are out but skating fast with larger wheels on vintage era bLind football shaped decks is fun.. Right now im in my "New Deal" phase of decks & just got a Templeton deck cause it's smaller then the freaking 9" Dannry SARGENT ONE...

I just couldnt imagine the shit she had to put up with when she was skating. The fact that she did it for,as long as, she did says she is a very strong person. She deserves much respect and props from all the girls that are coming up now. I cant believe how the skate companys screwed her over like they did. She seems like a really cool person to hang with.

Elissa got me into skating back around the 2005-2006 area, since she's woman who was also an incredible skater in my eyes. This documentary is just depressing, as in how oblivious I was at how she was handled by the skating industry, especially at the status she was back then. She'll always be one of my favorite skaters though.

I get what you're saying, but i don't think its like that at all. The point is, is that skateboarding was predominately a male sport before any female broke out, and obviously after year of males progressing they're going to be at a higher level. Elissa totally broke through that and so by calling her the best "female" ever they're giving her credit for that
@TekMoliGy
@TekMoliGy 7 жыл бұрын
so then i should be able to become a pro ballerena if i'm not even half the skill level as a female because its a female dominated "sport"... no because thats fucking sexist and irrational.

Great episode! .. I saw her on a few videos and in a few magazines back in the day but it was great to see her life as a female skater in a time when there wasn't very many female skaters and very few pro females. That's why I love this seires the diversity of skaters is insane it ov has all the greats but a lot of lesser known skaters that still skated just as well as the known pros

Elissa's problem was that she was more interested in drinking than skating. On tours, she'd spend half or more of the demo time trying to find weed and beer while the rest of the team did their jobs. Not knocking her, but she wasn't that into being a pro skateboarder. She just happened to be really good, and companies wanted her. After ten years or so, companies focused on other folks who were hungrier. Just a natural progression. I hope she's doing very well now, and I hope she succeeds at whatever she finally decides to do.

Definitely not "all skaters". I knew some killer straight-edge skaters. They were the exception, though, and not the rule. If you're young, have more money than you know what to do with, and spending hours and hours on the road there isn't much else to do to alleviate boredom. Are they "hooked on painkillers" or "managing chronic/debilitating pain" (not that those are mutually exclusive)?
