Outstanding Mashallah .Many fled to Algeria and Tunisia. I am one of the descendants of those Andalusian Muslims from my paternal grandmother.They were expelled from Spain and they settled in Algeria in a city called Cherchell where you really feel many of its inhabitants have brought their cultural heritage( culinary art,embroidery...) and even some linguistic aspects.Elderly especially are still using some words which have a Spanish connotation. Cheikh Yasir Qadhi ,Cheikh Al Wahrani who issued that fetwa was from the city of Oran (Wahran in Arabic) located in the west of Algeria. In many cities,we still have some Andalusian style houses. I really enjoyed your khatira today ... And I really thank you for that great lesson from history.Alhamdullilah there has been an Islamic revival in those Spanish cities .

Today I heard a news say Chua Ba Vang doesn't report their donation to the government. That is ridiculous because only the supporters can check the donation. If you look at any country, do you see the government can check the donation money. Example: can any country check the Vatican donation money??. To my knowledge is no. But only the Religious Union willing to let everyone seeing the amount of the donations.The funny thing is Vatican is a nation but nobody know their donation money . Secondly; Vatican is a nation, but you will not know their gpa. It's unknown. However; the Vatican pay the news channels to reveal others religions donation. If they don't reveal to Vatican, the Vatican will say they are devil but if you ask the Vatican donation money, they will say you are the devil.

True, I was a salafi who accidently married a hanafi who followed ulema deoband. He was introduced to my mum by a salafi aunty. I assumed he was salafi as his circle of friends were salafi. Once I got married, I realised eventually he was hanafi. I had such special place for the lost glory of Andalusia in my heart, The Muslim dynasty in Spain for 700 hundred years that it was my wish to go and pray in Masjid e Qartaba just before COVID ne and my daughter went to Spain for 20 days and saw it with my own eyes the Ottoman culture still has its stamp on every level of their lives ,the old streets with Muslim names the Siesta still exists which was started in the Sultan of Usmania times, washing every road and street is still in effect at nights spanish family style is like Arabs they are family orientated and they have the same family values we loved every moment of our stay in Garnata Alhumbra ,Qartaba ,Seville ,Banu Ra"aba Ashbillea ,Ronda and Valencia.went again this year too in 2023

Salaam, I personally listen to every Isha Khatira video. Really liked the discussion recently with Rasheed Ahmed & Father Cedric Prakash/The one on Sultan Saladin & the one on hajre aswad. But this expulsion from Al Andalus was just remarkable, best of the best. Succinct and very nicely narrated. Have always wanted to see Granada (Alhambra particularly), Seville, mezquita in Cordoba, Murcia, Nijar, Huelva, Málaga, Baeza, Ronda & Valencia. Read few books as well both on moorish times & on life of Queen Isabella to get perspective on what life was like in Moorish Spain. I am based in Sydney and I missed out on IFAM convention last weekend. Would be delighted to catch up with you while you are here in Sydney. I do hope you notice this and we get to meet, even if briefly. From one Yasser to another Yasir, Best wishes and prayers for your well being.

I'm from Spain and I'm so angry hearing this. All these things have been hidden from us for centuries, all the Muslim heritage of Spain has been systematically erased. The history we learned at the school was biased, with no mention at all of how the capitulations (the deals to surrender a city) allowed the practice of Islam, only to be broken some years later. It was not only Granada, it's something that happened in all the cities that went under siege. Sadly, most of my compatriots are not aware of this and consider the Reconquista a glorious part of our history and a trait of our identity.

An excellent talk by Shaikh as always. Succinct yet full of information and lessons. However, although I'm not sure if it’s at all connected to Morisco’s letters sent to Selim II, the Ottoman navy did fight the Spaniards and the Holy League at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 and were resoundingly defeated and was forced to sign a treaty. The Spaniards treated this victory over the Ottomans as revenge for their earlier defeat at the Battle of Preveza in 1538.

Don Juan of Austria the bastard brother of Phillip II of Spain defeated the great Moriscos revolt of Rebellion of the Alpujarras (1568-1571) as well as the Ottomans in the battle of Lepanto in 1571.The Ottoman Defeat at the siege in Malta in 1566 put all end of Ottoman plans of coming to aid of the Moriscos.

Fascinating and tragic indeed. Reading Matthew carr's "blood & faith" that I bought in Granada. If you go and visit Andalucía and see the old mosques and Alhambra it leaves you in awe. Thanks to Arabs we have algebra. During the dark ages Al-andalus was a beacon of knowledge and prosperity not to mention tolerant of Judaism and Christianity although I think they had to pay a special tax. Would have been amazing to see Cordoba or Granada at their height. Not that it matters but i guess I'll mention I'm American and married a Spaniard and although i don't practice any religion currently i was raised Christian and went to church and ask that jazz. The more i learn about Muslim Iberia the more I'm fascinated. I have nothing but sympathy and empathy for the moriscos and to say what was done to them was heartless and tragic is a massive understatement. The book I'm reading gets detailed and paints a pretty horrific painting. I know not all christians were cruel to Muslims but the overwhelming majority did not treat the Muslim population very well. Many Christian bishops had no remorse knowing what they were in favor of Muslim extermination in Spain. I generally don't have much respect for catholicism at least what it was in those days. It is very clear that the Sultan knew what was going to happen. He is a Sultan not some random idiot. He had access to the best education and the best councillor. Him adding protection for the community was a means to keep face in front of the rest of the world. He is a King, like any rich dude when the factory close he lives pretending to protect the worker interest but in reality treating to get the best deal out of the unfavourable situation for his family. Normal human behaviour.
