Wallahi the 'holding the burning coal' analogy is so accurate, Sheikh. I remember how I held grudge against someone and how it burned away my own Iman. I wanted the reward Allah promised for those who forgive, but it was too difficult for me to forgive someone who inflicted on me a lifelong trauma. Not only did I hate the guy, but also had 'jealousy' seeing him living a better life after leaving me in misery. But for the sake of ajr, I followed your advice from one of the videos back in 2013 or 2014: I raised my hands in du'a crying, and asked Allah to 'bless the guy with more goodness in this dunya and akhira'. But I admitted to Allah that the du'a didn't come from my heart, "Ya Aleem, you know that I didn't mean what I said, but thinking about the guy is harming my own Iman and I really need to do something about this. So have mercy on me ya Allah, and grant me a big heart to forgive him." Time NEVER healed up until that point, but alhamdulillah that changed afterwards. For months, slowly but surely the grudge dissipated. It was truly surreal and magical. Maybe it had to do with the psychological impact of the du'a. It began to make me feel good to see the guy living a good life, because him living a good life looked like the manifestation of Allah's answer to my du'a. I don't know if the guy can feel the same about me, but that was not important because all I cared about is my OWN iman, not his. So I didn't bother to contact the guy for several years. Until the pain that I thought was going to be a lifelong trauma is completely gone to the point where I can even joke about it, I finally contacted him just to say hi and apologize for my share of the guilt, and alhamdulillah the friendship is completely mended now.

May Allah SAW raise Shakyh Yasir to the higher ranks in Jannah. We Muslims needs constant reminders of how to be a good Muslim. Many a times, we fall prey to Shaitan's whispers to or say bad things, myself included. All lectures by Shakyh Yasir should be studied and put into practice by every Muslimin
