The queen walked down the street between her guards, her eyes wandering aimlessly along the stalls. Something crashed and the guards tensed, turning towards the new threat. Two men smashed into a fruit stand. The guards moved to interfere, but the queen waved them off. She pushed through the crowd and grabbed one of the men’s arms. He whirled to face his new opponent, freezing when he recognized the queen. “Your Majesty.” She turned to the crowd. “I know this war has been hard on all of us. We’ve been separated from our family. We’ve lost loved ones. We’ve suffered losses we may never regain.” She took a deep breath and glanced at the fruit-smeared men behind her. “But is this what we’ve come to. When did we abandoned our morality? When did we stop fighting for each other?” She eyed the crowed meaningfully. “We are one people. We must stand together... or we shall fall.”
