Thank you for this explanation. I just read the “On Cynicism” part of Discourses and I thought he was being sarcastic

First of all, greetings from Brazil. Thank you VERY much for your classes. It's helping me a lot in my research, my curiosity and my life. I'd love to see you talk more about Cynicism. I have one question for you. How do you deal with different points of view? You know that the stoics are against the pleasure life that Epicurus proposes. In the same time you know that in order to Camus to make sense you have to think as an atheist but, if you're studying Kierkegaard, there's no way to doing without a god. I find myself in that place for time to time. There are completely opposites ideas that I really like and I agree with both. Is that wrong? What's a philosopher's way to deal with that?

When I'm presenting a point of view, I do my best to enter into it imaginatively, to understand it in its own terms. What I do on my own account is draw upon those perspectives I find most persuasive, and can be in a kind of dialogue with, and then work out my own synthesis. Sometimes, this means changing my point of view over time

Take it from me as a cynic, public hatred is a leviathan but I must keep to my obligations.

I don't think I''ll take anything from a self-proclaimed "cynic"

I just wish you had a better mic for recording, it's not bad, but something like the Blue Yeti with a foam cover on it. or Blue Snowball

If the quality of mic bothers you, then I would recommend learning about and practicing stoicism
