Epictetus was an ancient philosopher who promoted the ideas of the Stoics in Greece and continued the activities of such masters as Diogenes of Babylon and Athenodorus. He talked about human nature, God and a virtuous life, and also spoke about freedom, since he himself was a slave in his youth.
Researchers suggest that the biography of Epictetus began in 55 AD. NS. in the ancient Greek city of Hierapolis. The name received at birth was not preserved in the available sources, and the nickname by which the philosopher was known meant that he was "acquired."
