Thanks for clearing up the “you might be paralyzed” myth. I actually believed this one too, which made me very apprehensive. Good to know. I had an epidural with my first baby and I’m about to have another one (currently pregnant). I will say that after my epidural, I began shaking uncontrollably for a while and my blood pressure dropped pretty low. Also, afterward, you will need assistance walking to the bathroom because you could fall. Beyond those two things, it was fantastic.

not so safe... i was dilating 8cm when i got my epidural and the anesthesiologist pressed some kind of panic button or called someone (can't recall) and all kinds of doctors and nurses came in asking me a whole bunch of questions, i couldn't even focus because of the pain I had.. I lasted like 2 years not being able to tilt my head or look down because I would have excruciating pain! ...and now my body reminds me (with pain) of that epidural experience every winter when its cold!

Doubtful about it being safe, at least not 100 percent safe. After getting epidural while giving birth, I have moments where I feel like falling. I have to stand still if I am walking in order to avoid falling, never had that before until after getting thr epidural uopn giving birth

I had an epi during 48 hr labor with GD, fetal macrosomia.. nearing end of 48 hrs I needed emergent CS for fetal distress. Was rushed to Or, and doc started incision - I yelled out ",OWW! I FEEL THAT". Subsequently OB ordered "knock her out". Was epidural too old? Or was my parasympathetic system in action?

I'm glad I found these videos...I'm currently 38 weeks and 4 days and I'm not even 1 cm dilated 🙁🤔...but hey I received an epidural shot when I get my cervical cerclage placed in but after I got home the next day I had to get a blood patch...I was so scared bc I never heard of that. my question is how do if I can prevent having to get a blood patch. I dont want to go through those horrible headaches when my 1st child comes... thnx!!

With my first baby I had an epidural, and it was great... only problem was when they gave me a 2nd dose... I was freezing and shaking uncontrollably... any reason for this? Was I given too much? I was unable to move, and had to have my nurse physically move my body for me. It wasnt terribly pleasant lol. I love your videos!!

It's thought that epidurals might sometimes cause this shivering and feeling cold because of blocking of your fight-or-flight nerves called 'sympathetic nerves'. Because of this, your blood vessels may dilate, and your blood goes to your peripheries and away from your core, causing you to lose heat.

Hi,is it safe for a person that did weight lost surgery and breast reduction to have a Epidural I'm talking about after they had surgery's?
@beggin4thebeat353
@beggin4thebeat353 5 жыл бұрын
Epidurals are safe. But you have to understand that every body is different. Just like each person has a different reaction to regular medications, an epidural is a medication. What he is saying that the benefits of epidural outweighs the risks and the 1% of people who do have reactions are a rare case compared to the 99% of people who get an epidural and do fine. Just like any medication(even over the counter) when they allow it for human consumption or use the benefits of the medication has to outweigh the risk. N that’s what he is saying about an epidural.

Is the spinal safer and a more affordable option? I always waited till very late to get epi so I dont need pain relief for very long.
@MedTwice
@MedTwice 10 жыл бұрын
The spinal and epidural are both very safe. Most anesthesiologists will place an epidural rather than spinal for labor pain management. It provides more flexibility in the amount of medication that can be used and can be converted into pain relief for a c-section if an emergency arises. The spinal (often called a caudal block in labor) is a single dose and if used for labor will need to be re-done if a c-section is needed. I am not sure if there is a difference in cost.

As for me I have to get everytime I deliver, but why does it fail to work on me. It only numbs me a little on one side and I could feel every contraction both time I've gotten it. So did they do it wrong? Or has anybody else experienced this?

I was numb on one side also. After he tried 7 times to get it in properly . The next dr came on shift , took it out and re did it and I went completely numb like I was supposed to. The rest of my labor was painless!

so...im currently 34 weeks pregnant with my second child. my first, while i was in labor, i had an epidural. so i understand about that. my doctor told me a while back, that at the hospital i will be delivering at (i delivered at a different hospital last time), does NOT do epidurals, but they DO do spinals. i dont understand about the spinal. i know yall have a video on it, and i watched it, but it was for a c-section...if i get a spinal for labor, what happens when it wears off?? will i have to have another shot? yall said it would wear off within an hour or 2...i dont WANT one, but if i want one while in labor, id rather have one than IV medications...cuz that doesnt get to the baby...
@MedTwice
@MedTwice 10 жыл бұрын
Spinal anesthesia can be used for labor, it is a smaller dose than for a c-section. The disadvantage to a spinal for labor is it only lasts about 2 hours and is not on a continuous drip. The advantage is it is easier to place than an epidural. This is used in hospitals that do not have access to OB anesthesiologists capable of placing an epidural. The spinal is timed during the "transition period" when the pain is most intense.

You can still push. You’ll probably need some guidance but you can still do it. You’ll need people to hold your legs probably, but the epidural will still be working.

It’s more difficult to feel yourself so yes. But I personally have never had an issue with this. And mine never wore off so I had a painless experience at the end of all three of my labors. I think it makes the experience very pleasant and happy, not just for me, but for my hubby too.

This guys great! And no. There’s no way an epidural makes labor go slower. I have had them with all three of my children. And it seemed to me that after I would get it at 5-6cm I would have the baby an hour later every time no matter how long the entire labor was. For my first I was in labor 19 hours, my second and third were about 7 and 8 hours. But still, after that epidural everything went so fast. LOL

If the doctor who is performing one on you have little experience. On different patients, who may have say like previous. Surgeries such as a peritoneal lower lumbar shunt. They can cause more damage, then good. Had that happen to me with my 3rd baby. Because I have to get it done in a different spot. An the doc who did it, had little knowledge on patients with shunts. Ended up trying 4 different times. Each time I felt like I was being stung by a taser. In my legs and back. Now I have nerve damage as well in my back and hip. Went natural with my 4th daughter. An will be going natural with my 5th baby as well. No pain after epidural, no numb limbs, and you heal a lot better as well.
