EPIK Teacher in Busan I My EPIK Apartment Tour (Rent-free)

READ ME PLEASE
Hey guys!
Just to clarify: this apartment is rent-free, but I did have to pay 2 installments for the security deposit (250,000/month). It came out of my first two paychecks. I transferred the money from my bank account to the school's account.
Sorry, my mind was all over the place in this video, so I misspoke a few times.

Palesa Jonas Thank you so much! Yeah, she’s from back home. My boyfriend helped bring her over. We had to do a lot of paperwork before bringing her over, since Korea is a rabies-free country.

@@PalesaJonas Awww, yeah, that would be difficult. Family takes care of them? I have 2 dogs. My boyfriend's mom takes care of the pug. We brought Isabelle over because she's more well behaved than the pug Haha

My top choice was Seoul, but now that I've lived in Busan, I really like it here. I'm glad I got placed here. :)

Your apartment and puppy are so nice! Did you apply with your boyfriend? I really want to be placed in Seoul but a lot of the feedback I’ve seen is that Seoul teachers have higher demands from their schools and really bad apartments. Have you heard similar things from friends that were placed in Seoul?

Juliana M Thanks! My boyfriend isn’t an EPIK teacher, he’s just visiting on a tourist visa. So 90 days at a time. I don’t have any friends placed in Seoul, but based on the Kakao Talk chats and the EPIK FB page, I do notice that people in Seoul have issues with their school. So I guess it’s the price you pay for living in the big city 😔

Juliana M I really like living in Busan. I’m near the beach, and the public transportation is easily accessible for me. I can go hiking, to the beach, shopping, or clubbing, all within 30 minutes (or less) via bus or metro. The only issue I have is communicating with people, because they have an accent. Having a translating app is super useful or asking your co teacher for help. To teach in Busan you need to meet the in-class TEFL hours. I believe it’s 50 hours.

Wondering did you mention during your interview that you boyfriend would be staying with you sometimes? I know they give bigger apartments for married couples but wondering if it works for bf/gf

Hi, I believe they may only do that for married couples. They don't for boyfriends/girlfriends. Even if your friend or significant other is doing EPIK in the same city, they'll give you different apartments usually.

Did you have to apply or pay any fees to have your dog in the apartment? Or did you have to ask your school’s permission for your pup? I want to apply, but I don’t want to leave my golden retriever behind (my baby🥺)

I asked my co-teacher after I moved in, if dogs were okay. She talked to the management of my apartment for me, and they said they would prefer tenants not to have dogs due to noise and possible damage. My teacher told me it was okay, because they didn't say no. LOL I didn't have to pay any extra fees. My boyfriend brought my dog to Korea, a week after I moved in. Since Korea is rabies free, you need to make sure you have the paper work necessary.

I got into EPIK, and my boyfriend is here until graduate school starts again.

I've visited Korean multiple times before, so I didn't really have a culture shock in terms of living here. I was surprised by how different schools in Korea are versus in America tho. At least based on my memories of elementary school Haha
