Epileptic Dog Seizure

*Update as of August 2023: Lucas is alive and well! He’s on various epilepsy medications but has been seizure free for over a year and a half. He now has a younger brother, a 1.5 year old golden retriever who loves to keep Lucas active.
This is Lucas, my 3 year old Maltese mix. This is one of his Grand Mal seizures that I recorded for his veterinarian.
Lucas was diagnosed with epilepsy about a year ago. Despite being on multiple medications he still experiences Grand Mal seizures and focal seizures every month.
For all other epi-pet owners out there I wish you all the best! Epi pets are no different then other pets, they still have so much love to give ❤️

I’m so sorry that happened but at least it’s not like my dog who had a seizure for 9 minutes and LIVED for 4 more years with epilepsy RIP Willow 2018-2022

Another moral: If your pet has been epileptic, it could be because of either neoplasm, heartworm, liver disease or worse, rabies. : (

My dog did this the other day but I got him to stop. He wasn’t making any noises he was just shaking. I called my dad from work so I could take him to the vet The vet did blood tests and x-rays but they couldn’t find anything. He was playing with his slipper and maybe he was just shaking it violently But he never shakes his slipper but my husband and I don’t believe it’s epilepsy The vet said maybe it’s because he got overheated from laying in the sun for to long but if he does is again I’ll be worried. He’s only 3 years old and he’s so tiny.

CBD oil has kept my Shih Tzu from seizure for 6 years now. She started having multiple seizures about the time that she turned six months old. They continued on and off for about six months before I discovered CBD oil as a treatment. I give it to her every morning now proactively and there have been no more recurrence of them as I said in six years.

Oh my god I am so dorry. I have a maltese (just turned 1 ) and I am afraid he might have epilepsy. He does not have this attacks but sometimes he is just sitzunh and than jumps up. When I tell him to stop, he stops but idk. Now I am super scared.

No. Unfortunately epilepsy has no cure. We can only try to control it with medications.

@@gcastillo6061 my dog had many seizures when he was younger until I figured out most dog food is poison. He eats raw.

He is on two medications, phenobarbital (2x day) and keppra (3x day). I also started him on cbd oil which has helped out a lot. He usually has one seizure a month. But other then that he is a happy and crazy dog whom I love very much. Best of luck!

My frencie is also on phenobarbiton 3x a day (3/4 pill 15mg 3x a day) and also have sizure one or sometimes two time in month.. But when she have it is 4-5 sizures one after other (about 15 second for one and than 10 sec pause and than other 3-4).after that she sleeping all day. The next day she is like new.. Happy and beautifull dog. Does your have multiple sizur or? How long is your dog dealing with epilepsy? Thanks alot for answering and sory for my english 🙂

IMPORTANT for everyone whose animal also has epileptic seizures (also works for cats, birds and dogs and other animals) !!! I have long researched what can help against epileptic seizures, our cat was only 9 weeks old when he had severe epileptic seizures daily with complete loss of consciousness, the veterinarian said that he might die. Neuro Complex helped us extremly, it is not an anti-epileptic, has no side effects and is not used to suppress seizures, but to heal them. Since we gave him that, the intervals between seizures have become much, much bigger, from one seizure daily, the interval has increased to over 11 days. We ordered it from this website: www.pet-herbs.com/epilepsy-dog.html I was very skeptical at the beginning, but it worked extremely well, I really recommend trying it out. He also gets Calmin and Hericium Erinaceus, but I think that Neuro Complex is the deciding factor, because when we reduced this dose after two weeks of Neuro Complex treatment, he promptly got seizures again, when we immediately increased the dose again, the Distances again much larger.
