Sounds good. I would definitely raise the bridge pickup first than dial in the neck pickup. I'm seriously considering it. Thanks for the video!

This one has me perplexed. I own a few from the inspired by Gibson line and I gotta say I haven't come across a bad one yet. I have the Standard SG, Les Paul Modern and TV Yellow Les Paul Special. I really enjoy all of them. The Special is far and away my favorite though. I love that guitar as is, just did a basic setup and changed the strings and it's perfect. I want another SG and keep coming back to this one and changing my mind at the last moment. Decisions decisions. Thanks for the quality review!

Thanks Jeremy. The TV Yellow special is my favorite from this line. This SG is definitely great for the price tag. I think you will like it if you pick one up.

Neck pickup (clean) sounds sweet to me. Guitar handles the overdrive nicely. Certainly a lovely guitar.

From Leo: Great color. I like playing an SG, never tried one with P-90's, even though I do like those pickups. Some are very neck heavy. I bought a Epi G 400 that has a good balance. Very enjoyable.
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the neck heavy issue has had me re-sale or return many SG's. This particular SG also had that weird neck weight off balance. I put it on and the neck falls. It was not very comfortable and considered returning this one. I tried another wide guitar strap and the neck doesn't fall. For the price, and the way the neck feels oh and the color Pelham Blue, I decided to keep this. The pickups are just fine. Not amazing like my Gibson Les Paul with P90's. Again, for the price point it's fine. All good. Thanks. I hope all is well with you. Also, regarding the neck weight, the strange thing is the 2020 Epihpone SG 61 with a maestro bridge is well balanced. Not this model however.

@@MikeFromNashville I learned a trick that may help you. Get some shotgun lead shot, maybe 4 or 5 ounces, and but it in double plastic bags. you will be able to wiggle it around in the control cavity and put the cover back on. I saw that trick work on a friends guitar.
@Sparky6string4 жыл бұрын
@@MikeFromNashville The '61 style (which this guitar is) has the neck sticking out a bit more than the modern design. I have a copy of a 61 and it's neck-heavy of course but my 2005 Gibson with the modern design matched with a leather strap that has suede on the inside make for little if any neck-dive.

I can't decide between one of these in Burgundy and the LP TV Special
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
I hear ya brother. I will say this, the TV Yellow and this SG are both very different. The TV Yellow Les Paul with P90's are heavier. I do a video on that here on my channel. I really love the Les Paul in TV Yellow. The SG however, looks really cool, has a super slim neck with a 12 inch radius Fret board. It's great to play, but I didn't like the neck and body weight difference. I was ready to return this but made it work with a wider guitar strap. The 2020 Epiphone SG 61 with the Maestro did not have this neck heavy issue. If I were to choose one, I would choose the Les Paul TV Yellow. I really loved the way it felt. It has weight but feels more expensive than it is. For the price tag being $399, you can't beat that. I say try before you buy. Both will inspire you to play differently. That's always a factor. Good luck on your journey.

Cool video man. Any idea how much this model weighs?
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
Cillían Brennan I’ll have to weigh it but the body is super light. It is a very light guitar. The neck seemed to pull down so I use a wide guitar strap to balance the neck and body.

thank you for the review I own one just like it the frets were I had to order three by the way to get one that was it was really worth keeping either but I got discouraged and I'll just do the French when I change the the strengths they were off 25,000 from the 8th fret to the 22nd other than that you know if you have cheap pickups and not putting the F1 special roll up on the top you know the finish of the guitar was nice but outside of that very disappointed and just desperate the only reason I'm keeping it

How does it compare to a Squire from a price-value ratio?
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
seb_thoms This is hard to answer. It’s hit or miss. With this particular model it’s a set neck so it’s going to feel different then to compare to a Squire. It feels well made and feels worth more than $399.

You covered all the bases, but on the next one could you tune it first? Also - how bad was the neck dive on that one? My Gibson Standard is so light it dives like crazy

There can be. These are P90’s. They can be a little noisy. Lindy Fralin makes noiseless P90’s.

How were the fret edges? My Gibson SG Special 2017 was shocking.
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
I must say that the fret edges are completely smooth. I love this neck. Just not the weight balance. The wider guitar strap helps. No, I am picky about that fret sprouting, and the neck is nice and smooth. I purchased a Fender Vintera Jaguar with Humbucker Pickups and the neck was so rough. I was so mad I paid north of 1k for a neck like that. I didn't return it because I really love the guitar but feel the neck wasn't up to par for the price tag. I do a video on that guitar on this channel. I have had others with this model mention in the comments that they too had a rough neck. So it wasn't just mine. Anyway, sorry to hear about the rough neck on the gibson. I also have a 2020 Gibson Les Paul Special with P90's and the neck is great as well, no fret sprouting. I guess it's hit or miss?

Mike From Nashville My Sg was a 2016 bought new in store after trying several models. Funny how after a time you start to focus on a particular attribute and then lose focus on the wider picture. My SG had the tone I wanted and my mind was made up. Only when you get home do you start picking up those other things! I hear Gibson have upped their QC game in the last couple of years though. To this day I cannot get over how light the SG is - lighter than anything else in my collection. Looks like these days there is not a lot between Epi’s and their more expensive brothers!
@Sparky6string4 жыл бұрын
Those pickups are very tame and smooth but the Gibsons are actually bratty and snarly. I plan to replace the stock ones in my Epi ES-330 P90 Pro with Gibson P90s.
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
KassperT You are correct. The Gibson P90’s are much more higher output than these on the Epiphone. Definitely different characteristics.
@MrShadowofthewind3 жыл бұрын
How are you going to do that though ? The epiphone has quick connectors, i don't think gibson pickups have that.

Not shure about the quality, ive seen all trogly's videos on the new Epis and they all seemed to have high frets. They look cool with the new headstock and new finishes. Shame they havent realised any 335 inspired by gibson
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
I used the Stew Mac tool that finds frets that are higher on this guitar and it was perfect. There was no wobble. The frets are even on this guitar or at least mine. I also own the 2020 Epiphone 61 SG and that tool rocked on the 3rd or 4th fret, not on this model. I think it's hit or miss. Either way, for the price this is a good guitar. If your not sure on it, you should be able to find a used one for less than $399.

Trogly is literally a Gibson snob. He annoys me with his stuff most of the time. If it isn't a Gibson, he will try to make it look bad.
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
Chase DL I respect what Trogly does because he is passionate about guitars. I don’t watch his videos anymore because he is way too picky about every detail of the guitar to the point of it has to be perfect. Which is fine for maybe a certain viewer who loves that. Nothing wrong with that. It just seems over the top for me to forensic inspection on a guitar. It’s too overwhelming. To your point he may favor Gibsons. Who knows? Thanks for the feedback. I really like to hear from people.

I like the playing in this one - are those all your own riffs?
@MikeFromNashville4 жыл бұрын
Your too kind Mark. Honestly, I should play better in these videos. I am so ADD, I just put it together and try and make it natural and not produced and perfect. This playing I'm doing is pretty bad in this. I was just playing random riffs that I came up with. They could be from something but I just doodle around. I just try and be raw and not over produced. I don't plan on a fancy channel. Just try and mic the guitar's the best I can and play natural to give people the idea of what the guitar sounds like. Thanks again Mark for your comments. I hope all is well with you.
