Putting the Sheraton against the Dot was not a fair battle, but at least from this video, you can see what some of the differences are in tone. I thought the Sheraton out performed the Dot in tone and pliability, which for the price, it should. Let me know what you think in the comments.

I just bought a Sheraton II last week. I’ve been playing nothing but that white strat in my pic for over two years and my god was the Epiphone a good purchase. The tones the Sheraton produces are unrivaled. Every tone I’ve found I love, those Probuckers are amazing, and it just FEELS SO GOOD to play. Best $700 I ever spent

Coincidentally to when you uploaded this video, Rich, I had purchased a natural-finished Sheraton II with traditional buckers. It was my fourth Epiphone semi-hollow purchase, the first 3 being an ebony-finished S II, an ES 335 Pro (the only new one out of the 4) and a Casino. Wound up returning to the S II in natural, because I had realized from playing those other guitars that was what I really wanted. I wasn’t satisfied with the sound of the 335 Pro or its pickups (Gibson & Epiphone’s coil splitting leave much to be desired in my opinion), and the Casino was severely limited for the music I play. You definitely encompassed much of it during this review when you played the Sheraton. It’s definitely significant that when you posted this review, I was performing next to another electric guitarist whose main axe was the Dot with a Bigsby bridge mod. Since the ensembles we were in together played copious Beatles covers, having 2 Epiphone semi-hollow models on the bandstand (at least on occasion) was advantageous.

I love that you played Blue Monk. First song I learned with the three-note rhythm chords. Worked at a summer music camp in my youth; me and a couple of other more advanced staffers had two weeks of "master class" lessons from a guitar professor from the northeast. Man! He drilled those chords into our brains. The Joe Pass "pass" is still a chord warmup I do.

After watching this 2 years ago, in 2020 I soon Got the Sheraton Pro II . Love it and as for the Pickups I think you could alter ALL things Stink with purchasing an 11 Rack as you did Meaning alternatives to combat Pickup Stink in this day and age can be Ironed OUT with Other Amps, petals of Software even a cheaper parametric equalizer ! Do NOT Sweat the small stuff. I Really Appreciate your Videos through the years as it is a wonderful time to become a musician Rich.

I own a 2002 Dot. I love it. Feels great, I can get a real smooth clean tone with it and a really good bite when overdriven. I think, though, that there is a Sheraton in my future.

Sheraton II, no contest. Just picked up a 2013 model and I can't believe the range of tones it delivers. If it had a master volume knob, it would be perfect. I like to blend neck and bridge and when I find the sweet spot, I'd love to be able to crank the master for a lead solo rather than messing up the balance, fiddling with separate volume knobs. Only guitar I've seen with this feature is a Gretsch but the sound was weak.

Nice Vid Rich! Love the Sheraton! Don’t really dig the Coil Split though. I’ve got a LH 2011 Sheraton II and I just Love it! Epiphone tells me they’ll NEVER make it again in a LH Version, don’t know if that’s true but I can say I’ve never seen them Left Handed since! Late to the party but not a huge fan of the coil split, except... when in mid (second) position split the neck and full Humbuckers at the bridge. You get a nice single-coil like sound. Much better than split alone.

The middle position split on the Sheraton certainly sounds eerily familiar if you know what I mean and I think you do. BTW I have one in Ebony and an epiphone 339 with humbuckers I enjoy both quite a bit.

I recently got a wine red Sheraton II during lockdown. I want to kiss it everyday. And it looks stunning; not even top of the line Gibsons have such appointments. hangs right in my dining room. Check out some of my vids to see it in action. I’ve improved as a musician because of its tone and playability.

For me the Dot sounds more like old school rock (she screams better lol); and the Sheraton II Pro sounds more bluesy/jazzy. Impossible to choose one, have to buy both !

I've got a mid 90s Sheraton and it's a killer. I really don't care about coil splitting. That's what I've got my Tele and Strat for. The Sheraton II sounds great though. Might even get one. My Sheraton will be with me 'til I die though. The Korean made ones - Sheraton ones just seem to be so totally across the board GOOD. No duds among them. Hope the II's are the same.

I have a Dot, and I mostly bought it because I found a "used" one at Guitar Center (that looked like it had been owned for less than a week) and had a GC gift card that was burning a hole in my wallet, but if was shopping for them, I'd pay the extra for a Sheraton. Still, the Dot is not a bad instrument...

Robben Ford uses a Casino for a lot of rhythm work. Sat under a piano for years til he dragged it out and cleaned her up.

I used to have a dot, and I now have a Sheraton. I really love mine, plays and sounds amazing. I bought mine used for $275 so couldn’t pass it up. The only negative is the weight. Gets pretty heavy after a couple hours on stage. I’ve always loved semi hollow guitars.

Hey, for some reason mine very heavy also! I had a ‘68 Broadway that was almost identical except for the trapezoid tail piece that was at least 2 times lighter. Should have never traded that one! Epiphone offered me $1800 for it to put on display but of course by then I’d traded it to a Store for a new LP. LOL!

I love the Dot. I bought 2 (great price used) one from 2004 that's extremely comfortable but the pickups are a little dark and one from 2000 that's slightly brighter but equally amazing.

Those ProBuckers are a vast improvement over the Alnico II Classic Pros. Sound killer in all of these newer Epis. Good enough to put off upgrading to some SD or Gibson replacements for a while, or ever. I'm concerned about the neck and inlay work on the Sheraton and other models with the "block-V" inlays. I've seen some previous generations of models where the routing around the inlays was atrocious. Like, how did that get passed QC?

Your such a powerful player, great dexterity and control there brother,one of my favorite pickups is the epiphone 57 classic humbuckers ,they aren't consistent when you go to buy a set, but if you get a good set,they sound as good as Gibsons 57s what I would call a great vintage PAF sounding pickup,question is do they use them in both the Sheraton and the dot,they sound terrific in my solid body TV yellow epi LP.

I have a 95 Sheraton its a great guitar you can get killer tones. It pairs incredibly well with my blues jr iv. Phenomenal clean tones great guitar for jazz blues as well as rock its a very versatile guitar it is heavy though. Sheratons are killer

Great Demo, love both. But the Sheraton is very creamy and can be played dirty as well if needed. My question is which one has the thinned neck ? I am guessing the Sheraton but not sure, Thanks and keep up the great work !

How do the necks and fretboard compare? Is there a significant difference in fret quality? Simply going by sight, it looks like the Dot could potentially benefit from a fretboard oiling and a new nut.

There wasn't a huge difference in feel, but yeah quality wise there is a few things the dot was lacking.

First, let me say that Dot I just returned was a QC anomaly based on how well received it is. Mine had string buzz on A from the 2nd through fourth frets which i didn't detect in the store. The truss rod was set properly per my much more experienced friend. He and I reached the same conclusion re: the nut not being cut accurately. Also the knobs weren't even close to straight on the shafts (think Tilt a Whirl) all in, more than I wanted to deal with on a brand new guitar. The Sheraton I replaced it with also in blue is gorgeous. Fit and finish are very high quality. The knobs are higher quality and straight. The neck is a tiny bit wider which feels better to me, and the action is better by far. The DOT is a very good value, but the Sheraton is an amazing value. Very good video BTW. SUBSCRIBED.

I had a late 90's Sheraton MIK some years back and I never gelled with it. Mine had an ordinary tone range and I never bonded with the neck, sold it and a little later bought a Korean made Dot and it was love, sound and feel to me were better with the Dot. I later put better pups (Golden Age) and 50's wiring, Gotoh bridge and I still have it, people have wanted to buy it but no way!

Both are great, Sheraton 2 pro a little higher quality and has more jazz/blues tone, Epiphone dot (es335) more rock/blues tone. I own them both! Just add a Archer or other light/ transparent overdrive pedal and creamy buzzy goodness, and that's from a formerly Fender man, these two and a strat is all I really need. In blind tests Epiphone es335 98% same time as Gibson 335! But I really love the Sheraton.

I own a Sheraton and a Gibson ES-355. Sheraton is absolutely amazing. You simply can’t argue with something at $6000 vs my Sheraton which i got for $325. I’d swap out the pickups buscase I find epi pickups very muddy. Massive bang for your buck in for the semi hollow world

I ha e the Epi 335 Pro with Pearly Gates MIC and a Sheraton MIK with Classic 57s and a Gibson 335 Dot CS Cherry. All three are great but I agree with you that the Gibson is better. Tone is comparable with pup upgrades. I would say that given the price difference it is just not that much better 5 or 6 times. My recommendation to anyone is to try and get a good Gibson on the used market as it may well go up in value. If you cannot afford Gibson then the Epi is a great approximation. I would look at least for an Epi Pro rather than the Dot. Sheraton is a step up MIK is best.

The first fingering for Sheraton did not match your choice for the Dot. People do this ALL the time as if they really don't like the one they play that throws off your listening expectation for a sound comparison. The Sheraton your choice was a warm melodic repeat beat. The DOT your choice was a screaming electric attack & vibrato very frustrating that I disconnected. Of course you cannot compare the DOT to the beautious Sheraton headstock inlay in your face. A totally different choice bothered me a beginner in semi- hollow body & hollow body guitar search.
