Wanted to compliment you on your no-nonsense review of the Epiphone EB-3. I am a professional bassist of an embarrassing age (been playing since 1965), and I just wanted a good overview of the instrument. You provided a complete tour of the instrument, during which you answered every question I could have had. Thank you! Most refreshing!

All I can tell you is that, having since bought the EB-3, I have not played a bass that feels better to me. The only thing I would change is the total lack of ability to customize the instrument. No change of pickups, electronics, or bridge is presently possible. Nothing wrong with what's there, but a couple Bartolinis and a Starz bridge would greatly increase it's flexibility. The case is a head-scratcher for me. It's a very nice case, but the handle placement is uncomfortable, and it has zero stability when set on the ground. Hope this proves of some value!

@@kodencotter177 Hi, Koden - The best advice I can give is based on my personal experience: 1. Learn to read bass clef 2. Play with as many people as possible 3. Learn to play as many styles of music as possible 4. Know your instrument, what it can and can't do, as well as your limitations on any given instrument.

Very interesting to consider that the Gibson SG bass is short scale length while only the Epiphone is full length. Some people may prefer that (I would a s a lanky, long-limbed metal player). So there's a real unique reason that could make the Epiphone both a better choice and more affordable for some.

From what I have just experienced with my newly arrived Epiphone longscale version: I have trouble to lay it down. From what I can compare to the Gibson originals in their reviews, this longscale version definitely ' growls' much more in the low end sounds. On top of that , I find that this Epiphone version is much more versatile in the sense that you can approach it more outside of just a bass instrument. It handles much more like a guitar, especially when you use the bridge pickup ( what I did not expect because at first I preferred the fat neck pickup sound from what I heard in the first reviews I listened to). From the bass sound of Black Sabbath, the sound of Pink Floyds ' One of these days' or the fat bluesy sound of ' Roadhouse blues': this instrument can do it all.

An ok bass, but not a GREAT bass by any stretch of the imagination. Long scale makes the neck too flimsy, it is weak made from low quality off cuts, making it prone to uneven torsion due to the big difference in tensions between the bass and 'treble' strings. If you buy this bass, be PREPARED to do a lot of work on the neck, and look at replacing that bridge pick up as it is very weak, and sounds like a tuned down guitar! The 3 point bridge is NOT all that great either! Another tip, MOVE the back pick up at least 1 width AWAY from the bridge, the tonal improvement is enormous and will get closer to classic Ripper and P bass territory!
@Moondog19546 жыл бұрын
DMSProduktions yea the bridge pickup is WORTHLESS. It’s a wacky fumpy bass. Need to do a lot of eq, different strings, different pickup, etc before it sounds actually “good” that being said it looks cool as hell. With minor work can sound great. If anyone buys this it’s for looks not sound. This bass is FUMPY as hell. I like it though.

The Epiphone is simply junk compared to the Gibson Eb3.It sounds weak in the low register compared to the Gibson classics of the sixties.I have own both a Gibson Eb0 and a Gibson Eb3 1960s models and the sound is so different.Rich clear lows and uniquely full mid and high range.When it is used for chords,everything is beautiful and harmonious,Not "Muddy".Its an ok beginners bass,but that's about it.Save your money and buy real Gibson Eb3.
