Such an incredibly decent guitar! I traded a Gibson J45 toward a high end Martin recently. While I was O.K. with the trade I did miss the J45 - I just like them. One of these Inspired By Gibson 45's came into the local music store and I was immediately impressed with it. I bought it and replaced the plastic pins with some nice bone pins. I also used a hair dryer to get rid of the super thick pick guard without hurting the finish one bit. These two mods brought it to life and I can say that I really don't miss the Gibson at all now. This thing scratched that itch just fine. In fact, I keep it out and have been playing it more than the Martin! If you're thinking about getting this guitar just do it. Epiphone have done a great job with it.
@dw12082 жыл бұрын
Hi when you removed the pick guard with the heat from a hair dryer did it not leave any residue at all and did you replace it with a smaller pick guard. Cheers
@promoted7382 жыл бұрын
@@dw1208 Hi DW - it does leave a thick gummy residue behind, but a little lemon oil and some patience leaves no visible finish flaws whatsoever. It takes a while but it totally works. I did apply a different much thinner and smaller footprint guard afterwards.

That is a lot of quality for the money. Mine is on its way. The pickup is not a good one but I use a lot of processing. I bought it for its acoustic performance. Looking forward to acoustic sessions with this terrific guitar. Edit: This is a great guitar, everything I expected. It's a keeper.

I received mine (Epiphone J-45) on Monday. I can't leave it alone. It's a very comfortable playing guitar. I know that it comes with Gibson strings; I just don't know what gauge. I'd like to order more of the same. I'm thinking they're 10s.
@andrewtanner83663 жыл бұрын
If they use the same strings as the J-45's/J-50's, most people agree they come with Masterbuilt Premium 12-53 80/20's. That's what came on my new J-50.
@andrewtanner83663 жыл бұрын
D'Addario 12-53 80/20's (Model EJ11) were identical in tone. Most say D'addario makes Gibson's strings to their specs, but these were a perfect match to the factory strings. Cheaper and easier to find than the Masterbuilts.

I like it. It sounds a little dull, which is better than tinny. It might have coated strings on it though. That would make it sound dull. The PU is terrible, but I never use a built-in PU in any acoustic guitar. A good mic works much better.

Great review! That guitar looks stunning!!!! I feel like the epiphone masterbilt excellente just sounded better. I also think my 2019 epiphone AJ45ME sounds closer to the workhorse Gibson J45. All in all the epiphone 45s seem to lack bass and a little bit of that j45 sparkle. I guess if they didn't Gibson would put themselves out of business!

If you still have that Fishmen in there rip it out and make a new saddle. I did and it became a different beast. That pickup is a thick steel braided wire. With the bone saddle flush against the wooden bridge the tone has greatly improved and the treble strings no longer have that muted sound.

Hola! Que tal es la acción de esta guitarra??? O sea que tan dura es para los acordes?
@sonoman90953 жыл бұрын
Algo dura, la mayoria de estas guitarras de fabrica, por que se fabrican en masa, tienen que ser llevadas a un luthier para que corrija la desnivelación de los trastes, la altura del puente y la cejilla, y para su correspondiente calibrado.

Are the braces scalloped?
@0713mas3 жыл бұрын
Should be hand scalloped bracing my epiphone AJ-45ME is. Although it is still a little overbuilt, seems to be considerably less bass then this one or any Gibson I've played. Sounds pretty close to Gibsons I've played.

Looks lovely, but for the money I would purchase a medium or high-end Sigma, they may not have all solid woods(in some models they do) but even though they still sound way better than these... it’s not about solid or laminate woods in the back and sides , it’s all about inner construction and soundboards. Antonio de Torres built a cardboard guitar back in 1800’s to prove this point, and he prove it rightly, not sure why people is obsessed to pay a load for solid woods on a guitar with a vary basic soundboard construction like these epis, I would be more concerned about brads that offer better soundboard construction quality like Sigma or Eastman, you will get a better bang for your bucks!

sounds good, will it sound good in 10 years. let alone 50 years. i have the original version of this. a 1955 j45 with a red spruce top and 1 piece mahogany back. the exceptionally rare version. it came upon me at school, when i was studying luthiery. i've had it for 12 years. and its my go to, writing instrument. my favorite guitar i've ever had my hands on. but concerning the tone. its is quite similar to these. mine is all hide glue, and much more woody and natural sounding. but this one is honestly impressive. however, guitars have a maturity curve. and these epiphones wont' sound great in 10 years. guaranteed. however, if you actually want a great j45 tone, these have a nice woody warm ness to them. 1955 j45's are rare for various reasons. desirable for others. blues guitars at the heart. but can play other styles... this would be for a street guy that isn't afraid to beat up a guitar just to busk. perfect for someone like me in the modern era where the 1955 j45 has nearly tripled what i payed for it. one thing about the original. pinches are exceptional and easy. it'll blossom any note if you want. but mine won't project. its a player friendly guitar. which is why it's so special to me in some regards.

10 years and they wont sound great anymore huh .... I call b.s if taken care of.
@DavyDave13133 жыл бұрын
I thought solid wood meant it lasts? This one is all solid wood
@treatb093 жыл бұрын
@@DavyDave1313 solid wood resonates better. But is prone to cracking more easily. But a maturity curve is a design parameter of tolerance. All guitars degrade over time. So the stress on the wood can manipulate tone. N a cheaper guitar tends to be built with shorter maturity curves. The original 55’s had a unique bracing that was extra tall n thin. Very strong. But epiphones arent designed to really keep up. The cheaper wood will fatigue quicker.
@treatb093 жыл бұрын
Dont get wrong. It sounds good. But the reason gibsons tend to sound less good when new is the maturity curve. They mature after a decade. N keep sounding better for about 20-30 years

@@treatb09 I have a boat load of guitars. One example in a 1966 Ibanez 12 string that’s a Gibson B-45 12 clone. Ive had it for 10 years now and it sounds better than ever. Then there’s a 1976 Takamine f340 Martin D-18 clone “almost” sounds better than ever today. Im also a luthier and have never heard of these specific and exacting wood aging curves...

Honestly, these Epiphone reviews kill me. What you see is perfect woods with no mars or run out so that it sells. Go into a store and the woods look like they were wood planks pulled off the back of an outhouse wall. Better still, watch Epiphone promote them, only to find no one in the country carries the. Better still, Epiphone upped the price by $100 before they were even in stock at Sweetwater. Stay away folks..these are more epiphone junk with zero quality control.
