Frankly if a kid really wants to learn guitar, a imperfect guitar wont stop them, my first electric had an action that was a mile high and I restrung it with 12s because I dident know what string gauge to buy when the stock ones broke. and I played it 4 hours a day. So this is great for that

I think I'm going to buy another one and see what it sounds like with lipstick pickups.
@socialdef34 жыл бұрын
Received mine yesterday, in Vintage Sunburst. Here is what I think: These guitars, like most well made epiphone entry-level models, need nothing more than fresh strings and a good setup. But it goes beyond just slapping strings on. Lot's of noobs complain about how the tuners suck, and how quick they were to replace them. Some already had the replacements before the guitar! If you string up using the locking method, demonstrated by Gary Brawer (look him up), you can enjoy the most budget guitars without having to replace a thing (as long as they are well built guitars, like Epiphones are). With the locking method of stringing, lubricating the nut with a pencil, and properly stretching the strings, I can keep it perfectly in tune, no slipping at the tuner or buzzing or problems with the nut. Everything works as it should. The wraparound bridge, another common hasty replacement, works perfectly as well. I use 9-42 D'Addario strings and play blues, jazz, classic rock and alternative rock and the pickups will play any of these genres well. The pickups, which you can adjust (modders rarely do this, but they are quick to throw in replacements which they still do not adjust smh) sound great and remind me of a telecaster tone, although sometimes it sounds like p90s. Also, I wish I could share a picture of the frets: they are medium jumbo and perfectly installed, it would seem the neck was pulled from a much more expensive Epiphone, that's how nice they are. I polished them and they look great, no fret spout or sharp frets as reported by other people when they first came out. I put chrome telecaster knobs on it and I am happy with it stock. Bottom line: get one and enjoy it for what it is. If you are a modder, at least spend time with it before throwing unnecessary components that will take time and money away when you can be enjoying this. If you have some decent amps, tube or not, or modeling amps, you will find many great tones with this cheap but killer ax. I got the satin finish and it is a resonant joy to play.

Young Frankenstein i spoke too soon, his newest video is basically this, but Gibson and $300 more lmao. Honestly with this i can kinda forgive it, because its so cheap and is trying to be for people who REALLY cant afford a guitar but want a factory new guitar. I dont think its trying to be great, its trying to just be playable. I guess its a perfect analogy though, epiphones done what gibsons done, though gibsons literally charging 3x as much cos its "murican".
@verigone26776 жыл бұрын
It is sad really, Epiphone should mean something...instead it gets pigeon holed into building knock offs of Gibson guitars or watching their superior arch-top designs get some fancier inlays and a Gibson logo on the headstock. I hope Gibson starts to fail even harder and they have to sell the Epiphone name to a company or person that truly loves music and understands the history of the Epiphone brand. If Epiphone wouldn't have lost a ton of money from retooling their factory to help with WWII, CMI couldn't have bought them and Gibson would have lost to them in the Arch-top and Amplifier market big time...the Les Paul would have been on a different headstock as well (Probably Fender). Let's not forget, while the Les Paul, SG, and Firebird were awesome, if you wanted a semi-hollow, acoustic, or mandolin the Epiphone was leaps and bounds better to play than the Gibsons (though the Gibsons were still mandated to be prettier).
@sircampbelltenson72973 жыл бұрын
Bought one recently and it was of the later revision. It only cost me £46 due to it having some slight body damage caused during transit to the guitar store from epiphone. The tuning stability and sharp frets haven't proven to be an issue and it's a great guitar to keep around like near the sofa just to practice on while watching TV or just for a cheap, workhorse guitar
@danieljdtaylor7 жыл бұрын
Love this video man, as much as I enjoy your brutal metal demos, this was a nice change and suited the guitar well, I reckon it wouldn’t hurt to do that sort of demo song for other products that may not be completely metal. On a another note, I’ve heard worse sounding guitars for more $$$$, this demo really demonstrated what the pickups can do, I agree with your comment on the hum from the pickups though. Keep up the great work dude!
@verigone26776 жыл бұрын
yeah, and $70 at guitar fetish can get you a descent set of pickups and pots that are plug and play easy to install...not amazing, but for a total out of pocket under $200 it is definitely a 'value'...but for $200 and 30 days to get to the US from Germany, a Harley Benton is slightly better for those not wanting to do any work.

I think this guitar sounds OK as long as you don't expect it to sound like a Les Paul. Really with that pickup configuration it is closer to a Telecaster. I would be interested in finding out how it sounds with a couple of stacked humbuckers like Seymour Duncan Hotrails. Otherwise I would also want to change the tuners, maybe for locking tuners. The bridge would be trickier. I think I would have to swap it for a tunematic bridge and drill out holes, installing ferrules to turn it into a string through arrangements which should help the tone. Another bridge option which could be good for this kind of guitar is to install a Bigsby trem.

As you pointed out, apart from anything else, I'm not sure in what sense this can be called a 'Les Paul'. It looks nothing like one, it's not made of the same (or even similar) materials, it's got single coils and one tone and one volume pot, the switch is in the wrong place, as is the jack, the pickguard has sod all to do with a Les Paul, it's got a wraparound bridge, and a flat top!

This was my first guitar I remember my mom got it for me when I was in 6th grade a year after Epiphone released them i didn’t get around to learning it until 7th grade (I had lessons in 6th grade but my old guitar teacher sucked ass and barley taught me anything just 3 notes and 2 chords) when we had music class and we learned more guitar chords and I started getting around to learning guitar riffs like “Crazy Train” and “Come As You Are” and I started learning power chords and pentatonic scales.Sadly I don’t have this guitar anymore i got rid of it 2 months after I got a Jackson JS11 guitar because it stopped working and the tuning peg for the high E string turns the other way when I have to tune it up and every time I would plug it In it wouldn’t work and kept on cutting out and the strap pegs came loose so I threw it out but saluted it before I did

If your into building or tweaking guitars this might be a good choice. the whole thing is less than the cost of an allparts neck. if you where to buy it, strip the electronics (I assume strat pickups fit in there) switch the pickups, pots, and shield the body. than get better tuners and a nut and you could probably get something pretty cool

Don't forget... the Gibson 'Melody Maker' mentioned IS (also) a Les Paul. Seriously. My wife has one (among many Gibsons) and she loves it. I agree with the 'Sweet Sixteen' vibe.... my daughter's getting one on XMAS morning, but she is 13. She loves Taylor Swift of course.... but also The Replacements, The Cure, Radio Birdman, Nick Cave, The Buzzcocks, Verruca Salt, The Clash, Led Zeppelin and more. When I first saw this guitar, that was the vibe I got... trashy, thrashy, loud... Ramones, MC5, Neil Young, Iggy Pop, etc, etc. She can borrow my RAT pedal and do every gig til she's 20 and not get accused of 'selling out' :-)

Hey guys I’m a beginner guitar player and need some advice. This is my first electric guitar and overall it has served me well. I’m not adept enough to understand the difference between a high quality guitar and this Les Paul. However, I’m finding that some of my advance techniques do not sound good. For example, when I try and do bends it doesn’t sound right at all. Is this the guitar or is just because I’m inexperienced and need to practice more? Likewise, playing with gain sounds awkward and bumpy. I’ve had the guitar for about 5 months now. Should I consider upgrading to a telecastor?

I dowelled the old tuner holes and glued the split, and put some strip style cheapy tuners on it. bridge had to go because it was made of cheese and i was snapping strings. after those changes, ( i got a partial refund) it's now a good guitar!

Noisy - yes but at least they are wired out of phase in the middle position which cancels most of the hum. I tried it with the band but couldn't use it - so light it felt like it was going to fly away. Couldn't hold it even with a decent strap. At least it's fun at home.
