This is really a nice guitar. I got mine this week. Initially it buzzed all over the place, but I took it to Guitar Center and got the truss rod adjusted and frets polished. Now it plays like it should. The neck is really comfortable. The body/pickup combination sounds heavenly. And the combination of the gold hardware and black and natural wood tone is gorgeous -- really a work of art. The body is super light and resonates more than any of my dozen solid body guitars. It's also fun to have something so unique from the guitar ecosystem.

I bought one of these a couple years ago and fell in love with it. I expected to have to replace the pickups and possibly the tuners, but there was no need. The frets are flawless, nut was cut perfectly, the tuners work great, and it sounds really good. All I had to do out of the box was adjust the truss rod and action a bit and dial in the intonation. I replaced the knobs with gold speed knobs and added gold pointers under them. Also gave it a black switch tip. It weighs like 6 pounds, the neck is very thin, and it plays like butter.

Thanks a lot for the shoutout Lucas, I really appreciate it! If anyone is interested in buying their own coconut shell pick, please do get in touch! Regarding the guitar, man, you have really got some amazing tones out of it! The visual, vibe and tone of it screams early ZZ Top for me. Especially with the crunchy sounds you had dialed in... Billy Gibbons would be proud I think :-D

Great demo. You can play, man. And the guitar’s vibe and subtleties really shine, partly on account of your playing skill, but also the fine choice of amps and settings. Chirps in the middle, schwangs on the neck, no mud anywhere. Thanks!

The day after listening to your vid, found one for sale locally for a fair price and jumped. Excellent resonance and clarity, just as described, with a woody-flutey tone distinct from other two-humbucker guitars I’ve played or owned.

Just to be clear, this is the reissue model, not an actual '58 model. Also, this guitar sounds very different from the run that Epiphone did in 2000. This particular one sounds very thin, especially the bridge pup on cleans. Very nice mids and high end but no bottom end, while the original line had a very thick, fat sound to it. Great playing though, and it sure is a looker! I wanted one of these so bad 20 years ago.

I was trying to find the Moderne's corresponding shape on the polearms list at Wikipedia. I think this guitar is the ultimate musical "axe", or at least the missing link between the poleaxe and the halberd. Voulge or Berdiche maybe? It's definitely some sort of polearm though.
@han36solo3 жыл бұрын
Ok ya it's kinda cool BUT.... (huge but) it needs to be a bright color to fit that shape. Idc how nice the fancy wood is, paint it! Bright yellow would work, red too. Then, it'll be space age like the Jetsons!

The guitar sounds great, and your playing is always on point! I could just never jive with the body design. The headstock doesn't bother me, I still think Gibson should have left those on the V's. Of course I like Dean ML's, so I don't judge what other people like design wise. If we all liked the same thing things would get boring real quick

@cliftongardner43673 жыл бұрын
The Moderne was originally supposed to be released with the flying V and the Explorer but was cancelled prior to production based on internal feedback (re: universal hatred) of the shape, so this is effectively a reissue of a guitar that doesn’t exist (or does it?) Funny, the ugliness is a huge part of the appeal now, not to mention the whole reason why a real prototype from the 50’s would inevitably become the rarest and most sought-after guitar on earth.

Is it actually solid Korina, or is it a Korina veneer like the standard Epiphone V is? (as opposed to the Epiphone Amos which is solid Korina) Korina being a marketing term rather than a wood species left them some leeway.
@mikebrown5644 Жыл бұрын
It looks solid. It's the lightest solid body guitar I own, by far. I don't know why it's not a commonly used wood.
@jacobseal3 жыл бұрын
Nice. I bought one of the epiphone "inspired by" ES-339 in pelham blue. It has the same pickups(i think) and it sounds VERY good. They totally fixed the pickups. I feel no need to change them. However the nut and fretwork are horrible. I have nut files, and already fixed the nut. Past the 7th fret it is barely playable and at fret 12 ANY bend totally frets out. And that's with action set at 2mm at fret 12. It has very sharp fret ends, too. I am pretty disappointed in it. I think I am just gonna have it re-fretted with jumbo frets to get it playing well. I tried to level them with a single triangular file, but it's needing a full levelling. I think it was a monday model.
@LucasFowler3 жыл бұрын
The 50's Standard Les Paul I had was that way. Unacceptable fret work. This one was pretty good. I did a little spot leveling but I was being very nitpicky.
@damiennewyorker8105 Жыл бұрын
I had a 78 Ibanez moderne copy and I've seen those go for 6k+ now so in my book get one if you can at retail when they're new because this style, the V and the Destroyer will always a future collectible. By comparison there are a million Epiphone Les Pauls but not many of these. BTW, that is not real Korina Wood, not on an Epiphone It's just a veneer but the color looks good. That's all that matters 🙂
