The reason I think the pickguard doesnt meet the body. Is that Epiphone uses different dimensions for most of their models. The LP bodies are slightly larger with a slightly shorter horn. The SGs normally have a different contour all together and slightly wider body at the horns.

I recently got the SG bug. I just scored a 2002 Epi SG Gothic, after buying a 2016 chinese faded cherry red g400, and a 2004 faded cherry g400. I was hunting a mik gothic down for months. I didnt want another chinese epi, though my chinese faded cherry is actually pretty well-made. I just love korean craftsmanship. I also have two korean squier pro tones, one black fat strat SSH with a floyd and super jumbo frets (i was mostly a strat guy, and lucked out with that guitar), and the red 96 protone standard (i really want a blue/aged green protone to my collection). So i set out on korean sgs when I got the SG bug after obsessing over Pentagram and Sabbath. Lol I just scored the 2004 faded cherry MIK epiphone sg on a bid. It has a the strap locks modded on the horn, like how Iommi has his, but it seems to be in a position where it shouldnt cause problems with breakage. And it also has binding. Even feels a bit better than my chinese, and is still in tune after a week and a half of shipping! Never had that happen before. Thought I was done until I saw the 2002 matte black sg gothic i am still waiting on... i guess is has a fatter neck, but not as fat as a 59 les paul, and i never had a guitar with a fat neck. My hands aren't huge or tiny, so i think i will like it. The gothics just look freaking evil and badass, and couldnt let another mik goth g400 slip away. After finally getting the gothic, i may have to calm down with buying guitars for a while lolol, but man, I now want a mik sg g400 korina. Those korinas look sexy af. I am happy to get mik epis instead of dishing out more money for gibson sg with sketchy quality control. In the future, I plan to get a tokai or a mik or mij les paul before Id get a gibson. Those 89 epiphones with the open book headstock are juicy af

I haven’t tried a HB but I probably should!
@janarnold55695 жыл бұрын
They ain't too bad actually. I had a flying V from HB about ten years ago. It was cool fun though but If you wanna play proper get yourself a good old Epiphone (Korean production) either a SG or a Les Paul. You can't beat one of those and especially here in europe they're sold cheap as chips. I'm playin' a black Epiphone Les Paul from 1994. It's just kick arse. That thing runs through my Big Muff Op-Amp straight into my Orange OR15. I can tell ya the sound that comes out of it rings your balls. Pure hellfire, dude!

How is the neck?chunky or slim?
@DoesItDoom5 жыл бұрын
I would call it a medium “D”. It’s not chunky but not what I would consider slim either. It feels like an early 60’s Gibson neck, maybe a bit slimmer, but not by much.

any neck dive on this SG? feel like its rare to find one that has a good blance
@DoesItDoom4 жыл бұрын
Not on this particular one. But I think the SG shape lends itself to some of that and it can vary guitar to guitar.
@mattpeckham6673 жыл бұрын
The Epi SG's that have the plastic tuner buttons don't have any noticeable neck dive; certain models that have Grover style metal tuners are very neck heavy.

How much did the all the extra luthier work cost?
@DoesItDoom5 жыл бұрын
Shouldn’t be much beyond the price of a setup. The nut slots needed to be adjusted to accommodate the 13-65 strings and I don’t have a set of nut slot files so I had to take it in. Think it was $80.
