My answer to the question is No its not. During the intro jam both headstocks were obscured and you can't tell which is which, they both sounded great and any tone difference could be attributed to the amp, mic set up and definitely the players. Get the Gibson if you can really afford it, but if you cant, don't worry you won't be missing anything if you get the Epiphone.

yeah Gibson resale is kinda of a myth these days too for newer models unless you get something limited. But Trad Pros/Classic resale similar anything else in the price so it's not really "an investment you can sell for the price you bought it" imo

I just got a Slash Epiphone and had the Gibson one, although I sold the Slash Gibson (for the price I like PRS and some other stuff more) I think the Gibson is worth it but I think Gibson you'd have to try for yourself and not something you can buy blind. Make no mistake, that Gibson had a grounding issue (2 of 4 Gibsons I've owned had) and they're not perfect qc like PRS/ESP/etc but they sound great.

Not only CAN you make the Gibson sound better than the Epi, the Gibson will MAKE you play - and so, make you sound better. If you‘d ask me how to describe what the biggest difference is: The Epiphone needs to be played. The Gibson will play together with you. Seriously, you will know what I mean by this. Have you ever had the feeling that you have to focus what you play, and try „force“ it to deliver a certain sound? With my Gibsons I never had that. I rather had the feeling that It plays and sings all by itself and youre not that cramped up trying to tickle a better sound out of it. But those high end Epis are really fire for the money. They remind me of the Bohemia Plant Made in Czech time. (IMO the best ones ever made from them). Thats when they also used long tenon necks, gibson electrics and pickups and so on. They finally dumped those old 350€ LP Standards that were….garbage, seriously. I‘m happy that nowadays beginners can get way better instruments than what I had to struggle with back when I started out. Back then, and I guess we all have to nod to that if we are honest - guitars under 5-800€ were mostly trash. Thats NOT the case anymore! There are Insane gigworthy guitars out in the sub500€ range nowadays. But to keep it honestly…I‘ll still stick to my Gibson‘s all day long, haha. Grüße gehn raus :p

@@blues-indianer8667 Yeah actually owned one myself. They were built around the 90s to i guess 2001. Early ones are the best, later on they „cheapened them out“ with short tenon necks, epiphone pickups etc. They were mainly for the European market and are quite rare. They built studio, standards, customs. The burst colored standards are rare to find and were expensive back in the day (I paid 400€ used and sold mine for 600). Like I said they had gibson branded PAF‘s, 50s wiring with good electronics and a long tenon fat neck. Even a Gibson trussrod. Basically proper gibson 50s stats. They had the best quality Epiphone ever had. I guess there even were Documentarys about it! Search Bohemia Musico delica plant . And if you find a good one in sunburst, give it a try. Its basically a proper 50s reissue. Even the new 50s standard gibsons dont have a long tenon neck.

guitars under 800 didn't suck in the past, man that is such a misconception. it depends on what era your talking about, 60's 70's, ya not so much, but the 80's is when we started getting more affordable guitars. by the 90's you had even more, my Epiphone LP Standard was a 2001 but it was good, it was a graduation gift, but that guitar played well enough for what i paid for. i got a good deal on it for 250, it felt like a 200 dollar guitar, but it didn't feel cheap. only thing i upgraded on it were the tuners and i put some better strings on it. so Epiphone made decent guitars back then. i had two Epiphone Les Paul Standards at one point, a 99, and 08. they were good for what they were, ya they weren't as good as Gibson but Epiphone wasn't meant to be the Gibson replacer, it was to get you to that next level. a Gibson Les Paul Standard back in 2001 can range between 1100 to 1400 if you go with the Vintage Classic, i got the Epiphone for 250 because that's all my budget can afford at the time. but back then Gibson wasn't too far out of price range, it may take a little while to save up, but it's alot harder to do that now. i did manage to get my first Gibson Les Paul in 2003, and it's a much better guitar than my old Epi, but the Epiphone served me well for a couple years until i got my Gibson.

The size of your frets and finish on a guitar has a lot to do if not everything to do with your guitar playing along with you. I have a 2020 vintage v100 Les Paul and a vintage v100 2010 and the 2020 has better frets and I can play twice better on that guitar then my 2010. You don't necessarily have to have a Gibson to experience the pleasant feeling of a Les Paul playing you. You just need a good guitar with the right set up and fret size to help you along the way.

The tuning stability is better on an Epiphone than a Gibson. I’ve owned Epiphone Les Pauls and one thing they have that you don’t find on Gibsons is the push/ pull coil split on the Standards. At the end of the day you’re paying for the name. Epiphone guitars tend to be overlooked by Gibson elitists but you can get just as good, if not better quality of a performance from an Epiphone as you would on a Gibson except you’re saving yourself a couple of thousand dollars. Here’s a better perspective…when you buy an Epiphone, you only paid about $1000 or less and have a lot more room in your budget to modify or change any component you want to make it cater more to your own liking. If you buy a Gibson it would be a waste to change parts on it because you’ve already spent 2K or more and I would hate to change or remove any factory component knowing I just spent a ton of money. At the end of the day it’s all preference. I love Gibson guitars but I’ll defend Epiphones against Gibson elitists and purists.

@@gregdunn6040they had to since the vintage v100 Les Paul were killing them in quality and tone. The vintage v100 is one of the few guitars worthy compar to a Gibson and in some cases in a blind test vintage v100 wins hands down.

Certainly not a huge difference. You can always fret level crown plek or whatever a cheaper guitar as well and you can wear down the frets on a more expensive one over time but what you cannot change is the finish. That is one key difference and another one is the woods. Fuck the tone supposed differences, the gibson is quartersawn mahogany and maybe even weight relieved all over. The epiphone is muti piece body and to be honest the gibson is pretty much a multi piece guitar as well. The neck though is also quartersawn mahogany on the gibson and it is not quartersawn in the epiphone. It is also a scarf joint with a less of a steep angle which may give it a bit of a better probability to not break, whereas the gibson may prove more stable in climate changes over time (may be because it is quartersawn not because it is one piece). Ibanez used to put quartersawn three longtitudinally pieces glued opposite grain even on medium priced guitars. Man, you cannot beat that for stability. Their fretwork used to be better than most gibsons as well. Epiphone should be ashamed for some of the recent fretwork lol. Some seem to come out pretty good though.
