As always - great podcast! Jacob has done an excellent job of describing the relationship between a polymer's structure and its properties. I have encountered problems with the solubility of polymethyl acrylates in PAO.

I know this was a simplified overview because the topic is so large. But a note on the grease side, in most cases you don't want to completely stop oil bleed as it is an essential part of the lubrication mechanism, especially in rolling element bearings which form a channel through the bulk grease and are really lubed by the thin film of bleed oil. This is also part of the NGLI selection, less thickener allows faster bleed in low temperatures where the bearing may otherwise become lubrication starved. Bleeding too fast of course can make a mess and reduce lubrication intervals, but there needs to be some small amount of bleed.

Definitely - and it's something I often have to coach with end users. If you see some liquid in the grease pail, that's okay! It's supposed to bleed a little, as long as the oil re-incorporates when you mix it.
