I studied Nietzsche in high school and struggled to understand half of what philosophize this succeeds in explaining with ease. This dude needs to write a series of books on philosophy.

As a teenager, you're better off doing intro to philosophy and nothing too much beyond that. There's too much context to grasp as a teenager. I also tried to read Nietzsche in high school. I also struggled haha!

We live in a world where there are so many views on love and interesting viewpoints. Firstly, many people define love largely on feelings which can constantly change; and even describes love as more of a feeling rather than any sort of commitment within our culture. And with the decline of relationships & marriage along with the increase in divorce, people are increasingly viewing love as more temporary feeling rather than lifelong commitment. Secondly, many people are asking whether they feel loved rather than whether they are actually loved. Thirdly, people are increasingly defining love in very different ways even though many of them are basing it on feelings along with what they hear. In our pluralistic world, many people seem to desire multiple forms of love and seek contradictory versions of love; but also are more willing to change definitions of love based on feeling. Of course, people in general always have contradictory demands and desires; and also apply those views in how they define love. A tendency people have is to seek the most of their desires of love while seeking to give the least amount of actual love!

I'm not sure that I understood that last quote from Nietzsche's biography: Are you implying that he believed love (or ultimate love) to be loving one's-self? If it's easy for you to clarify, that would be much appreciated.

Because I've said I don't wish to be in a relationship I've been abused and told I'm evil and cold hearted is that fair? When past experiences have taught me that humans can do awful things while claiming to love you

the only reason i'm scouring the internet is to understand love and romance. it's never fair for people to tell you you're cold and evil for a perfectly comfortable choice you make for yourself, that much i am sure of

I love your podcast, and i want to share this episode with my loved ones.. I accept i can be greedy about my loved ones but what kind of greed is such that one want to share it with others? Or love here used is in the wrong context? That means this love needs a rephrasing..

I would add that Nietzsche's conception of love in other places is quite distinct from this - there are different forms of love. Agape is one of them and Nietzsche in the Gay Science could be convincingly portrayed as endorsing a form of Agape. I would argue that this is what Amor Fati is. Thanks for you work, I enjoy it and contributed some $

Why complicate things? Love is the liking of something very much. The opposite of love is hatred, the disliking of something very much.

Tweak your identity a bit - it's easy - to that of a steward or the like; this gives you access to the power out there. See yourself as a conduit, with selfless giving at one end, drawing in the commons of imagination and wildlife (and enlarging it) with the other end.

9:05 People say looks dont last so you should love someone for their soul, but their soul doesnt really last either :P why not marry your dog or best friend of the same gender who's soul you love? (Hypocrites, all of ya!) Here's what ya do: Marry someone for attraction, but tell em its for their soul.. once you have kids: mission accomplished.. let the courts figure out the rest :)

"it is not their fault, its cultures fault" You have just found a way to justify every little idiotic human action. No one's assuming responsability for their lives, everything is someone elses responsability.
@hambonefakenamington69

but isn't that true, in a way? we're not born with any inherent knowledge of the world. all we are is what we've picked up from people and places. ofc that doesn't justify us blaming culture for our shortcomings, but all i mean is, it's not totally wrong.
