I just restored my friends mom's 74 sky blue lady suburban referencing your videos on this bike. Thank you so much for posting these up because they really helped. I'll send you a couple pictures if you'd like to see the before and after.

Congrats on your Schwinn bikes and hope you enjoy working on them as much as I do. This video series has lots of detail regarding getting these bikes cleaned up and ready to ride. @@johntorres5153 Not really, I just started buying tools as I needed them, I liked the Park Tool brand even though they are a little more expensive they are definitely good quality tools. Your local bike shop will have the basic tools you'll need to get started. I as well came across a 1973 Schwinn ladies collegiate once that had a cable bracket missing also and was for sure painted from the factory without the lower cable bracket in place always wondered about the bicycle boom of the early 70s and the quality control might have been a bit lax. Great to see you restore a ladies model ,so many have been just parted out and scrapped.
@that70sschwinn5 ай бұрын
Figures there was more than one out there, can you imaging getting it new at the dealership and noticing the flaw😪 I noticed the the Ladies Colligate did came with the one piece cable and clamps, so Schwinn figured they could get away with it . I agree, the bike boom surely impacted more than a parts shortage, QC would have been impacted as well 🤔Restoring this ladies bike was so much fun, if you get a chance to see part 5, she cleaned up well a real chic magnet🤣😂
@faulknerfixesall5 ай бұрын
@@that70sschwinn i will watch part 5 for sure. i have several opaque blue ladies suburbans and just do not have the heart to part out,well one belongs to wifey so that is really off limits to being a parts bike.the step thru frame made by schwinn of that era is the most comfortable to ride ever in my opinion even the breeze bikes equipped with slightly better gearing are decent durable ride although a bit heavy. keep the 70s schwinn rolling love your videos
@that70sschwinn5 ай бұрын
@@faulknerfixesall The Opaque Blue is one of my favorite Schwinn Colors, I had a 1972 Dodge Challenger in the same color, seems like Schwinn mimicked the 70's Chrysler Impact Colors seen on the muscle cars, including the Opaque Green and Kool Orange and Kool Lemon all colors seen on the Cuda, Super Bee , Challenger and Chargers. I agree, the step thru frames are easy to mount and dismount, no ball buster top tube 😂 Glad to hear you have preserved them as complete bikes, that was the whole purpose of restoring my lady Suburban, I wanted to make sure she stayed in one piece for the next 50 years. Definitely one of my favorites in my lightweight collection. I appreciate you checking out the channel as I have seen much of your content as well and certainly find your content helpful and interesting. I see that you also do the one hand while filming bike rides, always dangerous but we capture some good footage. Enjoy the ride👍👍

@@that70sschwinn hey thanx for watching my videos as well-yes the one hand filming is kinda sketchy even worse when you are trying to go off road on a really old bike with high gears but we keep things entertaining for sure. I just acquired my mom’s early 1970’s Ladies Suburban. She rode it for family bike rides growing up, then passed away suddenly when I was 12; it has been garaged for 35 years. I am looking to restore as best as I can for personal use (too priceless to ever sell) and look forward to your videos for guidance. We have restored a ‘69 AMX so hopefully this isn’t too far off!!!
@that70sschwinn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Joy, I'm sure your mom would be happy to know her Suburban went to a good home 👨👨👦👦🚲🏡 The vintage beauty will clean up nice, if it has been garaged for 35 years, I bet it's pretty pristine and may just need some basic maintenance and possibly new tires as time does take its toll on rubber. I would love to see it, guessing is one of the classic early 70;s colors like Sierra Brown or Campus Green. This restoration was completed with a 5 part series that covers the entire process, you should find it helpful and and hope you like with the end result. If you restored a '69 AMX, you will have no problem bringing your Lady Suburban back to its original glory. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching 👍🔧

Happy to see you work on a lady’s frame. I have a 77 suburban in flamingo in my shed but it’s in very rough shape. I just found a Schwinn Sierra lady’s bike in flamingo. Paint’s pretty good. Rear brake is seized, and I hope that can be fixed. It’s so pretty.

Hi Brian! Yes the color is very nice and you are probably right, it may have been sold as an FD closeout item. Nice! I'm going to guess it a Campus Green frame? It will clean up nicely, these old Schwinns have great durable chrome that will shine like new with a little elbow grease. @@that70sschwinn I wanted one in Campus Green but couldn't find one nearby. I stumbled upon a '74 in Lime Green on Craigslist for $25.
@that70sschwinn2 жыл бұрын
@@DustinBlythe The lime green is a very nice color, I have a 1977 Superior in that color and it has a nice translucent finish, Schwinn was famous for using a silver base coat with a translucent color as top coat, the result was some very vibrant colors. $25 bucks is a steal, you scored big time, the handle bars alone sell for $50, the wheelset is worth $125 and up. Mine was $85 and I felt pretty good about that price. Feel free to send pics when completed to that70sschwinn@gmail.com I have a viewer's bikes community page I use to feature vintage bikes from all over the USA.

Passed by one of these in a thrift store a couple of weeks ago. Actually, it came as part of pair. Wish I'd have gotten there earlier. Someone did buy the "Lady Suburban" and the men's is all that's left. Seems to be in pretty good shape. Will need a good clean up. but all mechanical parts are in good working order. $50 for the men's bike. Sure would have liked to have had the pair though. I'll be looking forward to your series on this gem. Getting harder to find these older Schwinns. Thanks for the video.

Hi. Sweet bike. I have a question regarding my 75 Suburban. I replaced the rear tire and it seems like the wheel is centered and within the rear breaks, like it was before I took the wheel off and replaced the tire. However, now the rear fender is rubbing the tire. If the new tire is not bulging, and it seems to be centered, how can I straighten out the rear fender? It seems really, really mounted securely. Thanks, Eric.
@that70sschwinn Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you checked the probable causes. You mentioned centered with the brakes, make sure its also centered with the stays. The Fenders can get off center based on the bracket being bent, you can try loosening the bolt by the bottom bracket and see if you can swing it either way, mine kind of did that too after I mounted the new white walls, I even went back to see before images to see if it was off center all along and I had not noticed it. I did get it straight after flipping the rear bracket by carefully swiveling it at the rivet, turns out my brackets fit better once flipped. If you get a chance checkout part 5 to see her done, she cleaned up well 👍👍🔧🔧

@@that70sschwinn Hi. Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a go on Friday. I recently moved to Reno, NV and was riding in downtown when all of a sudden both my tires were flat. It was like in 60 seconds. Turns out there is this weed called Goat Head. The strewn out thorns on the pavement can flatten tires in seconds. So I put on these new tires to help prevent this, plus some inner liners. Anyway, now my tire is rubbing the fender. So, I'll give your suggestions a try this weekend. Thanks !
