Thanks Murray my husband has had a motor bike licence for over 50 yrs and all the years we have been going to Bali he would not ride a bike in Bali.

It's also the speed. In Australia people drive 60 km...in SE Asia it's 30km mostly...you can't assume that people will follow rules you learned in Australia. The best thing is to at least take a driver for a few weeks to get a feel for it. Familiarize yourself with the driving/riding culture.

Love this one. I’m considering getting an international licence an hiring a scooter. Many times just used transport or hired mountain bikes. So true about the fluidity of how it just works

No need for license to hire a scooter mate I’ve hired one for 4 months no license no issue just where shoes and a helmet and you won’t get pulled over

Driving calmly, not to fast, keep focus in whole of your environtment in road traffic, tolerance with other rider/vehicle, give some sign with lamp or horn for warn another vehicle if you need some change line or turn or cross the street.

The first thing I do when arriving in Bali is hire a scooter. Only costs around $6 Aussie per day - much cheaper than paying a local driver. On my first two trips to Bali, I didn't have the guts to ride a bike. However on my third trip I took the plunge. You get so much more out of this brilliant island when you rent a bike 🛵

The first time ya ride in Bali is a big learning curve! I have many years experience of motorbikes etc if your not a very very confident rider and have great awareness and motor skills don't even think about hiring a scooter, organized chaos but when you get in the swing of things it's great and bloody good fun great exploration tool! But not for the inexperienced. People that hate on it should keep to themselves if it's not for you that's fine

Hi Murray, I need your hair style, I'm losing mine too. The only time I ride a scooter in Indo is if I'm outside the city limits. Outside of that I ride as a passenger.

As local... just keep in mind this one thing. Someone did something, it's your responsibility. So as others. Works both ways. If you know that, you already set. It's like the holy grail of the customs here. Also people can be angry/blame you if Doing sudden movement Failed to be aware of other riders/people Forcefully cutting people's way ( junction, someone start to accelerate, and you just cut them, only in these place you'll know) Also... cmon.. that helmet... can be considered illegal. You might get a ticket for that.

Scooters are quickest way to get around too. The surest way to die in Bali is to eat and drink too much and do fuck all.
