Here in the UK there is an exodus of therapists like psychologists, family therapists, CBT therapists and so on from the mental health system as its is become impossible to do therapy. Its being populated by support workers and nurses and is focused on case management and not therapy. This is especially true in services for children and young people. Its not simply about giving access to services to as many people as possible, as that doesnt matter if the services are not fit for purpose to such a degree therapist. cant even work there.

Was just listening to this on my podcast app, which was both an exciting and frustrating experience. Is there any chance of putting links to the various studies discussed to the show notes for each episode? I was particularly interested in the evidence discussed about culturally adapted therapies.

Any chance I could get the source of the statistic that 95% of the self-help apps have not been independently researched?

Therapy is pretty useless for anyone with an even limited level of introspection.

That's a hot take but it is simply not supported by the research. Introspection is only a small part of what a good therapist helps you do. If introspecting was all it took to be happy then writers, artists and philosophers would all be paragons of mental health, but that obviously isn't the case. Research shows that the relationship with the therapist is itself healing, in part because it corrects unhealthy attachment patterns that were established earlier in life.

@@moisansdrogue So you're makin the bold claim that the only thing that causes mental health issues are unhealthy attachments? Ok.

@@michaelshannon9169 Not at all. That's simply one example of how therapy can help people aside from introspection.
