Episode 11 - White Mountain, Fit For A James Bond Villain!

This is the first edition of Data Center Pulse, On The Road. In this episode, Jon Karlung, CEO of Bahnhof, a local teclo gives Dean Nelson a tour of his Pionen, White Mountain datacenter in downtown Stockholm, Sweden. It is located in a bunker 30 meters under solid bedrock. It was a cold war bunker that was converted into this datacenter and is said to be able to withstand a Hydrogen bomb blast. It is very unique and reminds me of a James Bond movie! And that is what Jon was going for.

It's not a former military shelter but a shelter from the Stockholm fire department. Swedish military facilities are generally more secure and drilled down much further in the ground then this cave.

Cool video. I agree that Mr. Karlung was difficult to understand, certainly in the last part with all the servers humming around. But I'd rather have a vid with not-so-perfect audio than no vid at all. I like his company already, being a huge James Bond fan :-) Now let's see what can I do to get me a breakfast invitation to that floating glass conference room ...

I'm Swedish but to be honest I didn't know that a place like this existed xD I knew about the ISP and such but not that they had their data center down in a bunker like this. Very cool really. Especially with that glass bridge and conference room and everything o_O And yeah Wikileaks host! Woot!
