Great update video, Rick. We all have those times at work that are grinds. Just makes our hobby that much more enjoyable. Like the array of pickups here, and the 1950 Bowman are my favorite.

You're right, Chuck. It was nice yesterday after a long day of work of finally putting my recent pickups in their appropriate place. I think we both enjoy curating our collections. 1950 is getting more fun! Thanks for watching, Chuck!

Steve, 1969 has all the distinguished career players we grew up watching. That is my favorite things about the 1969 set. A lot great players that weren't HOF caliber but still had a nice careers. Thanks for watching!

Hey Rick, work sucks us in sometimes. I am glad you have a story of texting your friends when Ohtani went 50/50. What an incredible feat. I am with you on backgrounds on the 50 Bowman. There are so many different types of images from closeups to full body shots, so it lends itself to all different types of background imagery. I like turtlenecks under jerseys too. Beautiful Mize. I think I prefer it without the name, but would be happy with either. Jensen was an incredible athlete. Played halfback at Cal. Was there first 1,000 yard rusher. The first player to play win in the World Series, All Star Game and Rose Bowl. He had a lot of off filed issues that manifested itself in a fear of flying. Good looking El Tiante. 69 has so many good rookies that aren’t HOFers. I didn’t know Messersmith’s rookie was in the set. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Terry! Those 50 Bowman's are just amazing. I keep asking, if the cards were larger in size, would I like them as much? I think it's the smallness in size that attracts me! I looked up Jackie Jensen after your comments. Man, he did a lot and was a great athlete. He should have gone to the NFL and not get stuck playing behind Mickey Mantle. It's a shame that his fear of flying messed with his head. It couldn't be easy back then to fly across the country. Love Andy Messersmith. Dock Ellis is another rookie in that set I still need to add. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!

Congrats on the pickups! Those 1961 cards look really sharp and the high numbers are tough.
@RickAcostaDodgerCardCollectorАй бұрын
Thanks Mark. Yeah, and those 1961 cards ain't cheap. I am trying to buy them at a low ball price and get lucky here or there. Eventually I'll have to start playing and paying! Thanks for watching, Mark!

Awesome cards! Funny that the bat boy is on Aurelio Rodriguez card! I wonder if it’s known who he is, would be cool to have him sign a card! I love the 1949 Bowman Johnny Mize! One of my all time favorite sets, the background colors are beautiful!
@RickAcostaDodgerCardCollectorАй бұрын
That Rodriguez card is the best. Don't know if this link will work for you. His name is Leonard Garcia: www.ocregister.com/2019/04/17/50-years-ago-angels-batboy-leonard-garcia-appeared-on-a-topps-baseball-card-the-card-of-a-major-leaguer/ Jim, would love to work on that 49 Bowman set, but it's just too pricey for me. Thanks so much for watching!

Great cards, Rick. Great '50 Bowmans. I think you're the first guy I heard mention The Battersbox. They're pretty much my favorite eBay seller. I didn't realize Snuffy Stirnweiss played for the Browns. I have his '48 Bowman where he is still on the Yankees and his '52 Topps where he is on the Indians. And I remember Bill Monboquette when he played for the Yankees. Those 1969 WS cards of the '68 series are so great. And the '69 Tiant is such a beautiful card. Great Mize as well. Btw, I say down with "endgames"! Lol
@RickAcostaDodgerCardCollectorАй бұрын
Hi Gannon! I LOVE Battersbox! Especially when they have 15% sales. I think they are one of the top online stores for cards, 50 Bowman is a nice set. I hope I can complete it one day. I remember reading about Stirnweiss on the Yankees. Can you imagine going from the Yankees to the Browns? Crazy! Monboquette had some decent years with the Sox. I agree on the endgames, but sometimes it comes into your mind! LOL! Thanks so much for watching!

I agree with you that 1948-1980 was a golden age for sports cards. It seems so far away, yet for us older guys, at the same time so immediate in our emotions. Both 1950 and 1951 Bowman have such stirring backgrounds. I'm glad you got New Jersey's own Snuffy Stirnweiss. That Jackie Jensen is so fascinating, back from his hiatus of his first short "retirement." And it's his last Topps flagship card. Thank goodness they had consecutive series back then, so they could sneak him in. As a Sox fan, I always wondered why Topps was forever putting Monbo in the high series. It's not as though he was coming back from rehab in the minors or anything. Kessinger is definitely an underrated player. The Mize NNOF is the earlier version. His card was reissued as one of the cards to fill out the last series, and by that time they were putting names on front.

Hi Michael, the last year I have been buying more pre-war and loving them, but 48-80 keeps calling my name. Those are the cards we grew up looking at! Bowman had some very nice sets. There is a side of me that would like to pursue most of them, but the finances on those cards are just too much. Jackie Jensen I need to learn more about. I remember he was the MVP, but I wonder what his career would have been like had the Yankees kept him? Why couldn't they move him to left? LOL! Monboquette had a decent career. He had some solid numbers in the 60s. Did not know that about the Mize. does go for all the NNOF cards? thank you for watching!
@michaelyoung7974Ай бұрын
When Bowman went to its last printing sheet of 36, it only had 24 players left. (240 is an odd number of cards for a set.) So it pulled 12 cards from the first series and filled out the sheet with them. Those are the 12 with the NOF/NNOF variations.
