Great set accomplishments. I too prefer to store my binders on the flat. Less potential for damage that way. Although I no longer do modern sets, there is something with the 2024 that appeals with me.

What was the reasoning Ernie Lombardi wasn’t in ‘41 play ball? Or any of the play ball sets. I’ve often wondered that as a Reds fan

Very cool video Rick. I did not know about Lamb’s story. Do you think the Dodgers retire Dusty’s #12 if he makes the HOF as a Mgr. Also…I used to love watching Reggie Smith play in the late 70’s and always felt he was the Dodgers best hitter. Reggie had a great career starting with a phenomenal rookie year on that 1967 Impossible Dream team. Reggie is also a longtime Dodgers hitting coach and dedicated humanitarian. I feel he’s should garner more attention from the MLB HOF committee but at the very least the Dodgers should consider retiring #9. Am I on this walk alone?

Hey Rick…Happy Holidays to you and your family. I’ve really enjoyed watching your channel this year and communicating with you. You truly have an amazing collection! 😎 Like you I was born in Encino 1965 bleeding Dodgers Blue from the start. The day my Mom brought me home from the hospital Sandy Koufax pitched a perfect game in a make up game against the Cubs in front of only 12,000 fans at Dodger Stadium as Watts burned in the distance. Here’s to a less volatile and peaceful 2025 and a repeat Dodgers WS Championship. 💪🏽🙏

Hi Rick, First off, Happy 90th Birthday to your mom! What a special milestone, and I’m sure going out to celebrate with her will be such a memorable evening. Enjoy every moment! Thank you for mentioning my video and for sharing the story of your first Christmas gift. The photo of you with your stuffed bear at the end was a nice touch. It’s incredible to think about the history you shared with that bear. While it’s a shame you no longer have it, the memories and that wonderful picture will always hold a special place. I also loved hearing about how the Acosta family celebrated Christmas. I am glad your mom recovered from being sick in 1969 and is still here to make new memories with you. This season really is about cherishing memories, isn’t it? That’s one of the reasons collecting cards resonates so deeply with me-it ties into those feelings of nostalgia and connection that make the hobby so meaningful. You’ve had an incredible year in collecting! I really enjoyed the recap of your pickups. It also reminded me how much I want to add the 48-49 Leaf Joe Gordon to my collection-I don’t have any of his cards yet, and there aren’t many to choose from. I also loved how you finished the card portion of your video by showcasing the Alou, Cox, and Reynolds cards. They’re a perfect reflection of the projects you will be working and possibly finishing in 2025. You’ve accomplished so much this year, from adding that vintage Carruthers card from the Goodwin Champions set, to reclaiming all the cards from your childhood collection, and finishing off your 41 Playball, 63 Topps, and 68 Topps sets. What an amazing year! Merry Christmas to you, my friend. Here’s to an exciting 2025! Take care, Terry

Thanks Terry! Mom's birthday party was very nice and Mom was very happy. 90 Years, just amazing to think about it. When I saw your video, I knew I had to discuss the bear story as I do think about it often around this time of year. Christmas is definitely a time of reminiscing. Like you, I think I enjoy my 70's cards cause it just reminds me of so many events from that era. Now with my older vintage cards, I think about the child that bought or owned this card and somehow ended up in my collection. I can't explain why, but for some reason I am a a big Joe Gordon fan and when I saw that card, I knew I wanted it my collection. I am very lucky to have my collection and I love sharing it with all of you. 2025 should be another fun collecting year. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Terry!

Addendum: The 1949 Bowman set is a landmark because it introduced America to the nickel wax pack. (I don't think anyone counts the scarce 1948 test issue that was unearthed in the 2010s. In '49, Bowman came right out the gate with both nickel and penny packs.)

90 years young! Wow, kudos to your mom! Omigosh, those old home movies from our youths -- they bring such fond memories! The thing that infuriated our dads the most: When they tried to take still photos, some kids would always be squirming around. Then when they shot movies of us, we'd be standing stock still. And there was always some kid who mistook the whole indoor movie setup for an alien monster and started to cry or hide. Thanks for the laughs you brought me, Rick!

Hello Rick. Thanks for showing your 68 Topps set. Sounds like we have similar stories about this set. I too just recently (2022) completed mine. Up until then, I had all sets back to 1970 so in 2022 I bought the 69 and hand built the 68. See in 1969, at age ten, I got the Milton Bradley board game. The Rod Cares and Reggie Smith were my favorites. I never hung on to my early 68s but always aspired to heave it. That was a fun project. How long did it take you to put it together?

Hey Rick, nobody has more fun at shows than I do, especially when I get to hang with great collectors such as yourself. I have to tell you the ’68 Topps baseball set was the first set I built when I was a kid. Most of the cards I bought from a vending machine at a Coles Market growing up in Long Beach. When ever I had some change I would ride my bike over to Coles Market and pick up a stack of cards out of that vending machine. The memories of card collecting from when we were kids I think is an underrated part of the hobby. Great video as always and thanks for putting my info out there to the hobby community. Happy holidays.

@@RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector The Coles Market was on Spring St. near Palo Verde. Yes, there was also Plaza Liquors in the same shopping center that had cards. Hey Rick! I enjoyed seeing you thumb through the 68 set. While I like the overall aesthetic of the set, I am drawn most to the history it represents. The World Series Tigers wjth Lolich, McClain, Horton Freehan and Kaline. Not to mention the fantastic team card. Of course, it was the year of the pitcher with all those great seasons that were had. Yaz wins the AL batting crown with a .301 average! Crazy! That Managers Dream card with Killebrew, Mantle and Mays is fantastic. Three old lions took a moment for camera. You have a beautiful set! I think the Bob Elliott has one of tbe nicest backgrounds in the set. The Heegan is a beauty too. You got a good deal for $80. Thanks for sharing!

Terry, the 1968 Tigers team card for some reason turned out nicer than the other teams. The League Leader cards for some reason also capture my attention. Yaz winning the battle title with a 301 average is crazy indeed. I thunk he was the AL player to bat over 300. I didn't appreciate The Managers Dream card as a kid probably because I didn't really appreciate Harmon Killebrew, but I love the guy now. I think he hit the most home runs in the 60s? He;s a fantastic player and it's a fantastic card. Love my new Boman pickups. 50 more to go! Thanks for watching, Terry!

Coming after one of the best-looking sets of all time in 1967, collecting the 1968 set in 1968 must have been a "WTF?" moment. One of the oddest design choices ever. Not as bad as 1980 Hockey or Basketball, but still weird.

Yeah, Rick! I will always have a special feeling for the 1968 Topps set as it was the first one that I really collected as a kid. I only have a few of those cards now. In the early '70's, I actually bought an entire set for $18! But I sold it for quite a bit more than that several years ago. Since I started collecting again, I've been picking up some of my favorite cards from the set. Those 1950 Bowman cards are nice, too.

@RickAcostaDodgerCardCollector Yes, $18! If only I had bought two or three! And I got a 1971 set for the same price. As you were saying, it was a lot of money back then. I think, if I remember correctly, you would have been around 10 when you got your set. I was around 14 when I got mine. I really needed the cash when I sold those sets, and the money I got from them really helped me out. The only thing that ticked me off was when I sold the '68 set, I forgot to take out the complete set of '68 game cards that I'd collected as a kid that were in the back of the binder! Well, at least I had doubles of Mantle, Mays, and Aaron, which I still have. As far as the future goes, I'm not gonna rebuild the entire set. I'm just gonna pick up cards from it that I really loved. Right now, I have three Roger Maris cards and a couple of Mays'. I always loved the manager cards from that set, as well as the team cards. Each one of those team cards gave me a different feeling. The colors actually helped shape how I felt about the teams. I particularly loved the blue Dodgers team card. Still do.

Hey Terry! All I kept saying to my friends about the Rams was if they're going to win, they're going to have keep scoring cause the Bills will come back. When they did, I said "hear come the Bills". By the end, both defenses were gassed. I agreed on the 4th down call as well. It was a great game! Who was a meaner pitcher, Drysdale or Gibson? I am scared of both of them. HAHAHA. No one was watching the Waner card, I won it so cheap. Clean Sweep is one of my favorite places to buy cards. They have some nice vintage. No sales, but their prices are fair and no sales tax, Yeah, getting that Williams was nice relief to get. Looking forward to continue working on this set. Thanks for watching, Terry!

Thank you, Steve! I actually found that Fingers for a nice price. I have a new appreciation for that 1969 set. I love the auction houses as an alternative to eBay, but there are cards to be found there at nice prices (sometimes). Thanks so much for watching, Steve!

yeah, I love the Morrell Meats cards. Let's see what this show is like. SoCal has weekly/monthly free shows that are a lot of modern and Pokemon cards with like one vintage table. Today I went to a small local show and that would be how I described it. I usually have no expectations and rarely buy much. I save my buys for the bigger shows like Burbank or Long Beach. Thanks again for watching, Dave!

Thx for sharing, Rick. Great channel. Just subbed. Love your sets. I didn’t know the Topps re-prints were complete sets. I have a few of them just for certain players; like the 53 Satchel. But I think the complete sets may be worth having because I will never build one of those early to mid 50s sets and they’re fun to look at. I love that era cards. Maybe some of my favorites. Cheers. PS which 20s set to collect? Maybe as a Dodger fan I’d do 25. Could be some WS cards in there. I’m a Mariners fan since their inception.😜 I’ve just been collecting their teams sets year by year.

THANKS Dave! I just subbed to your channel. Yeah, the reason I bought the 1952 Topps reprint was I remember the publicity they received back in 1983 and I knew I would never build that set, so I bought this one. I don;t buy too many reprints, but I made exception for the 1952 sort and the Dodgers 40th anniversary set. For the 20's. I have maybe 5-10 strip cards, all Dodgers, The one Dodger team set I do own is the 1927 W560. There are just so many strips cards that are expensive that I can't keep up. LOL. Still debating on 2025 set. Luckily I have time! I am waiting for a Mariners World Series. Thanks for watching! I'll check out your channel, Dave!

Cool you finished your childhood sets. I just finished one of mine the 1962 Topps football set. Has many Rams, including my favorite player of the day, Les Richter. Thx for sharing.

Great cards Rick. There are so many great deals to be had this time of year, and it's tough when someone like me is trying to build up the coffer for a larger purchase next year. I will stay strong though, and live vicariously through you. LOL Have a great weekend my friend.

Ahhh thanks Elvis. Dodgers used to open and end their radio broadcasts with that song brings back a lot of memories. Of course, for me, I have to watch until my cats Lalo and Sadie show up at the very end 💙❤. HAHA. Thanks for watching
