We are new subscribers and are enjoying watching your videos! We lived on a boat on the Columbia river for 6 years, you two remind us a little of ourselves. I too have looked over the side of our boat and said with a smile "there's no grass down there!" Mark and Diane from Yacolt, Washington USA

I have now begun working towards this dream of mine, it'll take a few years to get into the right position financially but it'll be worth it in the end. Also, I never ever thought about gardening in any way, at all. Now I'm already thinking about the couple of pots I'll have on my welldeck and the plants I want to try to grow. Watching day by day from the beginning and really enjoying your videos - you are both very natural. It mirrors a lot of our experience a year earlier. Did you walk up to the High Street in Braunston? You might have got a ryte nice pint at The Old Plough or there is always the Admiral Nelson up on the locks. Sue wants to know where Deb got her windlass holster?

I did pop into the old plough and had the worst pint in my whole life, I actually spat it back into the glass, it was like pickling vinegar, barmaid to a sniff an nearly passed out😂🤣 The windlass holster came from this chap www.daveonanon.com/shoulderholster.html

@welldeckdiaries56104 жыл бұрын
MPG is a road vehicle terminology. With boats we talk in litres per hour, and we use approx 0.9 litre per hour at and average cruising spreed of 2 to 3 mile per hour. our average day is to cruise for 2 to 3 hours then moor up for anywhere between day to a week.
@clearlake34925 жыл бұрын
Have you always found a place to stop at nights relatively easily, or have there been times when you wondered if you'd find a mooring before darkness fell?
@welldeckdiaries56105 жыл бұрын
we have had a few late ones but never into the darkness, its been mainly on sections of canal where it has been to shallow to get near the edge to moor

We can make a tank of fresh water (100 gallons) last 7 days, but we always make sure we know where the next water point is on our journey so we know where and when we will fill up with water, shopping is either as 2 day provision shop in the rucksacks or we arrange a Tesco delivery to a Pub carpark along the canal

you will have to come up north and do the Stanedge Tunnel... in West Yorkshire? Standedge Tunnel is Britain's longest, deepest, highest canal tunnel. Standedge Tunnel is Britain’s longest and deepest canal tunnel. Finally completed in 1811, it took 17 years to dig and cost the lives of 50 men. Having fallen into decline due to competition from the railways the tunnel closed on 13th October 1916, before an ambitious restoration, dubbed the ‘impossible restoration’, saw it reopen in 2001. Today, the tunnel, looked after by us and our volunteers, attracts boaters from across the world, keen to make the epic journey through the tunnel and the Pennines, from Yorkshire to Lancashire..it is 3.24 miles long....imagine the days when you had to leg through a tunnel while the horse was led over the top...
