The household microwave broke. Specifically, the turntable turns on when the door is open, the microwave no longer heats. Watch on for this simple repair!

Thanks so much for the excellent video! This was my exact microwave & exact problem. May I share a couple things I discovered in doing my replacement of the bottom door interlock switch ("FA-63") that makes the repair even simpler. I found it was not necessary to disassemble the light cover, microswitch holder or anything else after the metal shell was off. Another good video said to just press the little red button on the microswitch. It should give you a definite click-click when pressed & released. If it doesn't, the switch is bad. I was able to get a small flathead screwdriver in to press the switch and no click-click. Next, after removing the two electrical connectors as you show in the video, I found I could free the microswitch by inserting the screwdriver under the switch to slightly bend the little plastic tab to release the switch. It rotates right out and the new one goes back in the opposite procedure. Thanks again for the great helpful video!

No problem man. Thanks for commenting. BTW, I used to fix these for a living... but use a DMM for testing the microswitches. It can click, and still be broken.

Thank you so much. Just replaced the bottom switch and it’s working great! So key signs that switch was going bad: microwave would still be functioning with door open and microwave would turn on and off with pressing door button while door open

Your editing and repair is great as always, my friend. Kay-Lynn and I feel a great sense of accomplishment when we're able to fix an appliance. Loved seeing you Tweet this out. 🤘😎

Yeah, fix any appliance, and it feels so great cause 1) it's going in the landfill, 2) you can use the appliance again to make life easier. Just something about fixing appliances.

Thanks for the detailed video. Just what I needed. Amazing how simple a microwave oven actually is. You should discharge the large capacitor before getting into the cabinet. It can "bite" you hard. Btw. What software did you use?

Final Cut Pro X... if I didn't mention... I used to fix microwaves and major kitchen appliances for Sears in-home repair for 10 years+ so I know my way around them and the hazards they pose. Thanks for commenting. BTW, there used to be a debate if huge cap will kill you, or just "bite" hard. No way I was going to try and find out.

This was exactly what was wrong with my LG microwave. Cost less than $10 to fix. I would second discharging the cap, but worry that someone will get hurt doing so. I used the metal end of a wooden meter stick.

I used to work for Sears in-Home repair so I have plenty of experience working on microwaves. As long as you only mess with the control board area, then you are fine. If you are paranoid and want to discharge the cap, you can use a scrrewdriver with a non-conductive handle and touch both sides of the contacts on the capcitor.

@@The_SegaHolic I was more concerned about grandkids and pets. Those caps are supposed to have internal bleed resistors, but I have seen some that held a substantial charge many hours later.

Do you happen to have a video for a Kenmore 721.66109500? My clock/numbers/ LED are no lighting up. Otherwise it heats/works good.
