I think later in the series you will have different forms of will(haki) that will hide your presence better. Shanks is just one of many people who can exhibit this feat. One's will is often linked based on who they are.

The argument was never about it being easy. The issue is Luffys lack of stamina. Roger was able to sustain fighting WB for days. Luffy can’t currently fight for over an hour without being sidelined by his own powers. It’s just not a fight he could win at his current level. It’s the same situation with the Kaido fight. A lot of that situation helped Luffy win more than his power.

Because gear 5 Luffy can’t be sustained for an extended period of time. Even once he awakes against Kaido, he was still able to get his on Luffy and nearly gas’s him out before going down. Now imagine a prime healthy Roger. If Luffy can’t take him out within a short period he loses right there no food or naps coming to save him. Then once Roger walks down Zoro, Sanji, Jimbei the fight ends there.

The biggest fault the Manga an anime have for the straw hats is the fact Oda has never given us a multi day battle. We hear about Jimbe,White beard,and Roger all fighting for multiple day battles yet all we get is battles that only last the afternoon. Or through a single night. The closest we got was vs the Seraphim where it was off screened.

Of course Garp isn't in his prime anymore an we can use that to scale how strong Roger would be if he was alive right now since they were rivals an that's still not island level. Garp was shown to be susceptible to a classic old fashion jumping by the Blackbeard pirates. So it'd be easy to say Roger would as well but I'd say Rogers Haki would be far stronger. I'd say the strawhats would win. Why couldn't Garp fight the Blackbeard pirates for days at a time when his generation was known to do things like that an Garp would need to be able to battle for that long in order to keep up with Roger. So it makes 0 sense. Either the new generation is that much stronger, Roger would lose to the Strawhats in a fight as a group, or All of those feats of multi day battles are fraudulent and they were sipping tea and having fun with each other during the harsh nights.
