Episode 15 Snapped Prop Shaft Coupling - Towed Back Up River

Worst news you can get when you plan a trip and you experience a trip ending repair. STRANDED. with no where to go unless help comes to your rescue.
Our prop shaft coupling shattered in half.
Ended up getting towed back up river...where we came from (the opposite direction of our final destination!)

Right, this easily could have happened while crossing the Columbia river bar or out in the pacific. So glad it happened when and where it did. We got lucky

New coupling and good as new. Good call letting the yard fix it, not much room down there. The boat wanted to hang out for the 4th of July and spend time with you.

Watching your channel gave me the epiphany/inspiration to "not wait, just go buy my boat, slip it at a marina, and commute on weekends to do the refit". I saw on the broken piece that the bolt was loose, so the problem must have been loose bolts.

eek tow boat usa has a $165 plan I think that is three tows...couplings are not that expensive, be careful

We where able to get a Tow Boat U.S. subscription for 50% off through West Marine. So this tow really only cost us about $100. Plus you will see in upcoming videos it was a lot more then just a prop shaft coupling that needed repair

Absolutely! The same exact thoughts crossed our mind. We were super glad this happened while we still had at least 1 line still tied to the dock, instead of down the river or even worst...in middle of the ocean!
