I have barely scratched the surface of episodes 16 and 17 but they are already changing the way I arrange. I decided to take a step backwards and just worry about 2-part writing for a while. It's proving to be great fun to explore and easy to improvise with. Thanks for these studies.

Thanks, James! I view borrowing as an activity that is combined (or not combined, as the case may be) with other activities. Someone at some point asked me to do an episode of “the elevator of borrowed chords” but this kind of misses the point, at least that’s how I see it. Once basic borrowing has been practiced sufficiently, as well as elevator work, a person can combine the two actions organically, which is really the goal we should work towards from the beginning. It takes time, but I think seeing it in this way is important and empowering :) I will say that there is a level of elevator proficiency that makes it so that all borrowing is just elevator work:)
