Hi. I just received one recently on a piece of holey plastic. It's now on a cork bark raft. I hope it blooms as well for me as yours does in a year or so. A helpful video. Thank you!

Howard I womder if you could recommend or make a video on what people wanting to get into the difficult to maintain Orchids can try first. As always I enjoyed seeing your beautiful plant.

I have had a Dendrobium Jenkinsii for six years and it is blooming for the first time this week. The sad part is that it started off with over 20 spikes but most of them blasted and I am left with only six blooms. I note that your plant bloomed 9 months ago, which would make it in May. Do you think my plant is confused about season as it bloomed in February? I have been trying to give it a winter rest but when it started spiking I watered it twice a week, could this be the reason the buds blasted? Dendrobiums don't seem to like me very much, I haven't had much success with them 🙂.

I've had Aggregatums for several years now and they've never bloomed. Very frustrating. After watching this video, I see that maybe I've had them too warm. I'll keep trying.

Hi Tim. Definitely worth trying a dry period. I've spoken to many people who have had a non flowering orchid for years and have eventually found that this works a treat.

My DJ keeps producing hand-sized maple-like leaves coming from brown fuzzey protuberances. Never any flowers tho :(

I have had my Dendrobium kingianum for 5 years, which I bought fully grown from a nursery. It has never flowered, but keeps producing lots of babies. I have taken some of those babies and repotted them and they keep producing babies but again no flowers! I even planted one of those babies in a garden pot, which then flowered in the spring having endured the cold winter and the pouring rain. What is happening and what am I doing wrong? I tried to add a photo of the orchid, but not sure how to!

Hi Tracey. I have two Dendrobium kingianums and they live outside in a semi shady sheltered position hanging on wall brackets where slugs and snails can't get to them. Last year I didn't bring them into the greenhouse at all because it was a mild winter. This year I had to bring them in but only a few days ago. They are cool growing orchids so I would recommend growing outside whenever possible. Your experience with the keiki would indicate this is where you are going wrong. They tend to produce a lot of keikis (babies) when the growing conditions are too warm and/dry. Hope this helps. Mine have flowers just beginning to develop. I will be showing it at the end of my next video so you can see what mine look like.

@@HowardRice Hi Howard, thank you for your reply. My plant is quite big. Do I water it much at this time of the year? Do I take off all the keikis?
@HowardRice Жыл бұрын
@@traceyhumphreys9086 Hi Tracey. For winter reduce the watering but don't let it get too dry for too long. It rather depends on what temperature you are keeping it at. Ideally it should be in a cool greenhouse or say next to a window in an unheated room. In spring I would remove any keikis that have roots. Do watch towards the end of the video that I have just posted today. I filmed my two plants so you can see what mine are like.

What exactly, do you mean by intermediate? What temperature?
@HowardRice Жыл бұрын
'Intermediate' growing conditions to most orchid growers means that in winter the minimum night time temperature is between about 13 and 15 deg c. (55-60 deg f.) with a rise of a few degrees during the day - hopefully. So not cold but not what you would consider tropical.
