Thank you, Roger, for taking my request and acting so quickly on it!!! I need to figure out which one I have and if it needs mounted or potted. I'll send this off and turn my attention to the video. 😀

I had a lindleyi for the longest time and managed to get a jenkinsii a few days ago. Imagine my surprise when I saw the jenkinsii for the first time. I knew it was smaller in size generally, but they were so tiny compared to the lindleyi. The entire mount was slightly larger than my palm. As you said, once you see the mature specimens you cannot confuse the two.

The blooms on jenkinsii have a richer colour but there's not so many and they don't last very long.

Den. lindleyi is easier to find and, I think easier to grow and more rewarding as it produces many more blooms on the spikes. But, the colour on jenkinsii is better.

@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai I stopped ordering on line because for some reason I always get crap plants so I have to be content with what my orchid shop has, but they have really large specimens in their botanic greenhouses maybe I can make a deal for a cutting 😁

Thank you for sharing 🙏🌻. Very helpful information on differences between new and mature canes/ bulbs on Dendrobium lindleyi. Yes! 😃 they all look wrinkled and that makes it sooo difficult to judge the amount of water they should have. Hopefully I don’t mess up watering during winter time 🤞🏻. Ps. I grow my new (small) lindleyi in clear plastic pot.

Den. linleyi can do ok in a pot as long as it can dry fast and doesn't hold water - especially during winter.

Thank you for this very informative video, Roger. I recently bought a Dendrobium labelled "aggregatum". It is a young plant, probably a division of a larger one. However, the size of the canes, the fact that they lie flat and the size of the leaves suggest that it is actually a De. jenkinsii. I have to see it bloom to be sure. We'll see! Cheers
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai 3 жыл бұрын
Den. jenkinsii canes are around 3-4 cm - lindleyi (aggregatum) are more like 8-10 cm but these sizes are for full-sized mature canes.

I have Den. Ueang Phueng which is a cross between the two. It is a very fast grower (when it is growing). It matures a bulb faster than any orchid I have. I'm still waiting for it to bloom so I'll give it a rest.

They can be grown in pots as long as the media drains fast. Den. jenkinsii doesn't do as well in a pot but lindlei does fine.

Great talk Roger, thanks for the comparison. I acquired a dend. Lindlii this spring and it was in old rotten musty moss and dirt packed so tight in the pot the canes were growing bown into it...upside down, well I had to power wash the roots to clean them, I mounted it on a cedar plank it's getting air and water with nutrients, hasn't stopped putting on new canes. It was very neglected....I would love to get the other one too they are cute!!!

Could you mount the Den. jenkinsii hook vertically? Not perfect solution but could help with light distribution.

My jenkinsii when the leaf appears on a new growth starts to lose that leaf. It grows new growths fine and the bulbs form ok but the leaves won't stay on it. Do you know what could be the solution? Could it be to low humidity?
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai

Could be low humidity - could also be too much light? or too dry at the roots?

Thanks Roger, i will start with watering more often and if it doesn't help i will try to tackle the next possibility. If it will still grow a new cane of course(i think it stopped for the year) Thanks for your answer, have a nice day

Purchased lindleyi in August. mounted it on a piece of tree fern bark, bark is growing mold on the back not near any part of the plant. wondering it it would be ok to re-mount it again on cork bark. Can they be potted? Thank you.

The lindleyii is really cool with 2 leaves. Looks like you got a natural mutation if new growths from that bulb do the same you have something cool and special to divide down the road. I bet you will have folks who will want clones of something so rare. I like the blooms of these I prefer length on canes so. Im waiting on a good Chrysotoxum they arent common and are pricey too or Densiflorum. If someone reading this likes the more nobile buds off canes Dendrobium thing with simaler yellow blooms there is Den.Chrysanthum. I'm a flower spike type grower so I tend not to go for these types I did recieve a Den.Exotic's sunlight as a gift that does the budding on a cane thing that so wish me luck on growing it. Its just something about the axillary buds that causes me to have an atypical trypophobic reaction.

I suspect the two-leaved cane is a one-off - will have to wait until next season to see what it grows next.
