Wow, shot of a lifetime catching that mosquito landing on the flower next to the spider and the spider tossing the empty carcass aside to snatch fresh meat. That's one less mosquito to harass Dixie! It's been said before, your video editor is awesome BUT, you have to give him the great material to work with. You're the incredible videographer Dixie. You're going to have a wonderful record of your amazing journey ... I'm sure there's a lot more footage that doesn't make it into your KZbin videos that hold precious memories for you. Just an amazing journey Dixie. I can't wait to vicariously reach Canada with you. I LOLLED at your "Hiker Trash" pun at the dumpster but only because I've learned what the term meant from you. :-) And ... 30+ mile days??? I just can't imagine.

Everyones so excited about the spider (which really was awesome) but your whole demeanor, your love for the tiny bugs and towering peaks, and your casual stoicism in the face of the things beyond your control made the spider also seem like a casual aside. You are really inspiring! :D

Actually, the primary source of giardia contaminated water in mountain streams and lakes are from beaver, and muskrat, not from livestock, as grazing is poor or nonexistent close to the treeline, however beaver will inhabit pretty high elevation water.

Dixie Great info. I hiked a short distance on the AT when on my way from Mt Baker to the East on a drive to another park.. stopped long enough to say I did hike the AT .. I know sissy stuff.. but I in no way would ever be in condition to hike a long distance like that.. not in bad physical shape just liked to relax on my camping outings.. Not sure if the AT connects With Mt Baker ?? I thought to the East ? I love the scenery.. Hiked almost to the snow line.. Loved the Switch Back trail.. first day wore me out,. had to return to the camp from half way up.. tried to make lunch drawing water with my filter slipped and fell into the fast moving stream.. very wide.. Cold ! water from the glacier.. water over my head.. fought the current.. thinking I would be found in Oregon some day.. but made it to shore.. spent most of the rest of the day in the tent in my sleeping bag.. scratch one day of my agenda.. Cheers.

Wonderful! Most entertaining episode yet. Moral dilemmas about life and death, amazing vid of spider taking away at least one of your mosquito tormentors, and all of us getting to see Perk again! Did you notice how your pace picked up just a little bit at the beginning when you first mentioned seeing Perk soon? Too cute. Just hearing those darn skeeters was enough to make me want to slap something., lol. Such gorgeous scenery! I was trying to guess how many times you've had to hike n the rain. Not too much? I guess all the water has been underfoot in the form of old snow, treacherous steams, and still lakes. Another quick question, if I may...how cold has it been at night now? Have fun hiking with Perk and all! Can't wait until next week!
