There are two small T20 set screws under the chrome collar. You have to pry that down about a 1/4" and then you'll see them. The entire knob slides off after that. You still have to take off the gray trim to get to the wire connector that is located on the driver side of the entire shift assembly. It is hard to pry that chrome collar down. There are two small tabs holding it up. One is in the front and one in the back. But it DOES move down. Just be patient.

Good information to have. Should make this process easier for the next guy.

Well I use my wrecking bar to get that all apart. Much easier

shouldn't the set screw just be under the chrome trim on the knob

Very possible. I couldn't figure out how to remove the chrome piece to check. If you can figure it out and verify the location of the set screw, that would be pretty cool. That saves a great deal of effort for the guys that just want to tighten up a loose shifter knob.

@@MazdaB3K Just put a 2011 shift knob on my 2008! You take a clean thin flathead, slide it between the leather and the chrome ring and apply downward pressure. The chrome ring will slide down revealing 2 T20 Torx screws!

This is NOT how you do it. Get a plastic wedge pry. Do NOT use a metal pry tool like this guy. When you pull the center console out, just pull up from where it rests inside the center console arm rest. This guy is barbaric.

Barbaric... First time for everything I guess. I do say in the video after I pull the console for the first time I pulled it wrong and to pull differently to avoid breaking clips. Watch me do it wrong so that you can do it right.
