Episode 3 of the RUMO series: Industrial Fishing in Foz do Rio Itajaí-Açu

This is Episode 3 of the RUMO series: An Audiovisual Diagnosis of Foz do Rio Itajaí-Açu, produced in the first phase of the RUMO Project, carried out from 2020 to 2023. The RUMO Project team visited the municipalities of Itajaí, Navegantes, Balneário Camboriú and Penha , interviewing people, recording images of activities carried out in the territory and the sectors that operate in Foz.
Did you know that Itajaí is the largest fishing hub in Brazil? In this episode you will learn more about Industrial Fishing and learn how this region is responsible for around 20% of this type of fish production in the country. We interviewed fishermen, showed how fishing happens on an industrial fishing vessel and how it is processed in the industry. We talk about what life is like embarking for weeks on a deep-sea fishing trip, how the Industrial Fishing chain works and why Itajaí is a reference in this type of fishing.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The RUMO Project is a mitigation measure required by Federal Environmental Licensing, conducted by IBAMA, for the production of oil from the Baúna Field, located in the Santos Basin, under the responsibility of the Australian company Karoon Energy.
