Boat racing lacks a decathlete division, but if it existed, Andrew Tate would undoubtedly lead the way. Throughout the 2023 race season, Tate skillfully navigated many different boat classes, including Stock Outboard, 350 Hydro, Grand Prix Hydro, Formula 1, and, of course, Unlimited Hydroplane. In this captivating episode, Tate invites us into the heart of his racing experiences across these diverse watercraft.
Tate, a fourth-generation boat racer, embarked on his driving journey at the tender age of 11, competing in the APBA Stock and Modified Outboard classes. His talent propelled him to multiple National Championships. In 2023, Tate secured the Hydroplane Racing League (HRL) Grand Prix Season Championship for the second consecutive year. This year, as the driver of the Miss Madison Racing U-91 Miss Goodman Real Estate Unlimited Hydroplane, he seamlessly stepped into the shoes of the retiring champion, Jimmy Shane.
Following in the wake of his father, Mark, who boasts four driving championships and two gold cup victories during his Unlimited career, the younger Tate has etched his legacy. Since his debut in the Unlimited category back in 2016, Andrew has notched an impressive nine wins, including a coveted driver's championship and an exhilarating Gold Cup victory.
But Tate's passion isn't confined to the inboard hydroplanes. In 2023, he expanded his horizons to the F1 Championship Powerboat circuit, campaigning a tunnel boat owned by his close friend and fellow Unlimited racer, Dylan Runne.
And when winter's icy breath descends, you'll find Andrew Tate trading water for ice. His love for competitive ice hockey, cultivated since childhood and carried through college, remains unwavering. Alongside his racing pursuits, Tate actively contributes to the family business, Sun Coating Company, where he works in Sales and Marketing.
