Episode 36: Beach Mode! | Nokta Makro Simplex

On the day the UK Lockdown was eased to allow us to metal detect again, I went to a local, quiet beach to enjoy the weather, views and to see what I could find under the surface with my new Nokta Makro Simplex! Today I tested the machine in Beach Mode.

Great vid Adam as usual really enjoyed it 👍 could I just make a request and please don't take this as criticism as I think your videos are great but could you lose the background music whilst detecting so we can hear your tones and pinpointing properly? Musical interludes fine but whilst you're talking music in the background I just find it a little distracting. Big fan of your stuff mate keep up the great work GL&HH 👍

Thank you, Gareth! I really appreciate feedback like that. I started adding the music because I have a lot of followers who don't detect and following feedback from them, I found it was good for keeping them interested during the more 'techy' bits. I often use headphones too (although not today 🙂) so the tones aren't always audiable. Totally appreciate what you're saying, though, and it's a great point. I'll give it some thought and see if there might be a happy medium to be found. 😎😀👍🏻💯

Hi Corey from Canada. Thanks for the vid's. When you get a hit can you show us the screen on your Simplex I have the same model but I'm having issues with all the numbers next time can you show the screen when you get a hit so you can learn the numbers thanks

Hi Corey, Thanks for watching! To be honest, it's tricky to show the screen on every hit, mostly due to the angle I hold the detector at but I usually say aloud what the numbers are for each target. If you check out my "Detecting Under Lockdown" playlist, there's a video I did there shortly after I got the Simplex which goes through more desirable targets and their VDIs - it was designed to help me get a better feel for the numbers and tones on the machine and you might find it helpful too 😃😎👍🏻

Hi Johnny! This was the first time I tried it on the wet sand and both signals I found were so deep that I couldn't reach them with my big sand scoop so I think it's safe to say it'll go deeper than most of us will be able to dig to! 😎😀👍🏻

Adam first day at the beach yesterday 1st try out with the simplex. So ground balance in beach mode do you have to wait for a sound to let you know when ground balance is completed? Also had a couple of decent signals dug the hole signal disappeared?

That's right. It'll give a beep to show it's balanced. If you don't get one you'll need to balance manually. 😃😎👍

On the disappearing signals it could be a couple of things. If the target is very thin and flat it could have been moved onto its side or it could just be a pinpointing issue (missed the target with the hole). Also, if the ground balance was off then it could have picked up some mineralisation in the sand/shingle. Keep going. Things like that will get less frequent with experience on the machine 😃😎👍

Hi I’m a complete stranger to this. I’ve got the simplex for me and my grandson it’s a really a challenge because it all sounds the same to me. Do I need a license or can we just go to the beech

Hi Daniel, It takes time to learn a new machine. Best advice really is to get out and practice and watch KZbin videos for tips. If you're in the UK, you don't need a licence. If you're heading to the beach, check the Crown Estates website first because some beaches prohibit metal detecting. If you want to hunt on council land (parks etc.) you need to contact them for permission. For farmland, same principle - contact the farmer for permission. Hope that makes sense! Be patient. In all the time I've been doing it I haven't found gold or a watch. Best I've had is a sterling silver ring. Don't focus on the finds. Just getting out and doing it is the main thing 😀👍🏻

Great! Depends what they are. Don't use anything too acidic like citric acid otherwise they'll be eaten away. Maybe try soaking in something like Cilit Bang overnight and see how they come up 👍🏻

Most of the beaches in the South East are primarily shingle. Yep - I'll be experimenting over the coming weeks with the different modes. CAN'T WAIT!! 😎😀👍🏻
